Hi @Teskey
If you have found something that you’re happy with, then that’s great.
What I have taken from this thread, and elsewhere, is that when used in the right way and with the right surfactant, the Degritter is hard to beat. Both with the performance of the clean and especially where simplicity of operation is involved.
Personally I think it’s retro aesthetic and size mean it’s decent enough to leave out on a shelf too. The only issue I have with it is the cost. I’m saving up for one because I honestly couldn’t be faffed with using the alternatives.
HG user here. Really easy and does a great job. The only surfactant i use is Wilko dishwasher rinse aid. Does a great/cheap job. Soft water from my tap too.
Lets not over complicated things here.
I was a bit mitigated first when I used the Humminguru . Sometimes the records , in very good ( NM) condition had still some clicks and pops, and there was some drops of water after the drying.
But when I associated the Degritter fluid, the results were much better and regular. No complaints since. I am very satisfied by it.
The degritter fluid is most likely just a surfactant. Lowers the surface tension of water and allows the water to wet the surface of the lp. And allows the water to dry, leaving no marks.
My cheapo dishwasher rinse aid does me fine.
it’s for the cartridge ? i didn’t knew that one. I have personnaly a Zomba gel and a Lyra cleaning fluid for my Lyra Kleos.
so that one on the pic is yours? satisfied?
A reminder that a Google search for “precision aqueous cleaning of vinyl records” elicits a very well thought out paper on the topic. I’ve read most of it through, and realised it’s one of those articles that you really need to take care reading. Anyway, thought I’d mention it. I seem to recall that linking directly wasn’t appropriate, so I haven’t.
This is my rooster. Haven’t actually dared to try it yet, need to confirm that there are no problems using it with my Hana ML pickup, as I read on the forum that there may be problems using it with some pickups.
That sounds good Porphyr. The post I read claimed that the liquid used could dissolve the glue on the cantilever on some pickups. What do you think about that?
I can’t say I’m too worried. Why would one use a sort of glue that after hardening dissolves with propanol and ethanol, commonly used in cleaning stuff? My take on it is that it would already have happened if the glue can’t withstand this liquid!
I agree with you, it’s probably nothing to worry about. Stefan at Akkelis, I guess you might be a customer there just like me, told me when I bought it that they hadn’t had any problems, although I didn’t specifically ask about the glue. It’s probably just "honk and drive"
My Humminguru stops after 30 seconds. I have to switch it off and on, then restart it, but it continues to stop after maybe 30 seconds.
Bad luck. I will write to Humminguru.
Hopefully I could clean the majority my favourite lps for now. It lasts 10 months. About 250 records cleaned. So it costed me 1,72 euros per lp.
I hope however that Humminguru will send me a new one for free
I know it’s good. But I am quite sure that I will have to return it back to China. So 1 month to arrive, another 1 month to receive the replacement.
I send them a message this morning.
