Thanks Richard. It looks not that complicated I agree. But it takes some time, as my eyes are not enough good. And imagine I do the job and it still doesn’t work. The problem may also come from a connector, not forcefully from the PCB itself?
All that looks a bit fragile, my impression at least.
I agree FR, I think HG should have asked you to return your machine and sent you a replacement.
I also agree I don’t think its the best customer service to have you dabbling about in the guts of the machine to rectify it, even if it is ‘relatively easy’ to fix.
Don’t know about elsewhere in the world but in the UK the manufacturer is under no obligation to replace a faulty product. The can choose to either repair, replace or even refund. I am surprised they are sending out parts for FR to install unless they offered this as it would be quicker and easier than sending it in for repair. I would have expected them to give the customer the choice between repairing it themselves or sending it off for repair.
Hi guys, good news. Here the message they just sent me:
“
Thank you for your email. In general, we will send a replacement part to our customers and instruction for them to replace it. There are only 10 terminals for you to unplug and replug the wires. Each terminal is different in size and therefore, you won’t plug the wiring wrong. With the issue with your machine, we confirm changing the PCB will resolve the issue. However, upon some discussion with the team, we offer to send you a replacement unit instead of providing you with the replacement PCB, since you mentioned that you had bad eyes and have no technical ability.”
Hi @frenchrooster
That’s more like it. Well done for your assertive stance and well done HG for demonstrating some common sense and decent after sales care. It’s always good when a seller shows they value their customers. Life circumstances are dictating I’m unlikely to afford the Degritter and may well end up with the HG in the end. This response make that decision more likely.
Thanks for the keeping us updated FR.
Thanks @1GiantLeap , great support indeed. I was not keen to play with the PCB changing. It was a bit a mess, cables crossing themselves in all directions and not sure it would work after.
I will share of course when I will receive it.
Getting my 3 purchases from a street market record stall today degritted for a session tonight.
Such a great machine.
Source first?..…I reckon the grooves in the record are as close to the source as we’ll get so let’s clean them as best as we can.
My friend has just bought a Humming Guru. Sadly he lives a few hours from me.
I have another friend who lives closer who has a Degritter and I have experienced the improvements that the Degritter provides on my vinyl.
Just need to get a few cleaned on this Humming Guru now to do a comparison.
Yes I’m hankering after one of these machines. Do you use Degritters cleaning fluid or anything else?
I use distilled water with 2ml ilfotol (wetting agent) and 4ml IPA. The bath itself is about 400ml I think so it’s very dilute, 1-2% overall.
Once I put the liquid in the bath I do a short ultrasonic degas (also warms the liquid) and while this happens I pre clean with a few rotations on a disco antistat and Lart du son first just to get any real surface muck off.
I do feel that wetting agent is a must to get into the grooves. Not sure if the ipa is really needed but I have it anyway.
I use the Degritter fluid. Only need 1ml per tank. Works fine. I use distilled water from APC Pure.
@Toon - if you have a record that is quite bad in terms of greedy marks (ie not scratches) would you do a clean by hand before putting it through the Degritter, or would you leave that to the Degritter?
I see you’re still on the old software don’t you fancy the upgrade ?
I only use the Degritter to clean and don’t precede it with other methods. This is largely due to the fact that most of collection was already cleaned by the Okki Nokki RCM I had before getting the Degritter.
When buying used records at record fairs etc I use the “heavy” setting on Degritter.
I’m on the latest version of the firmware which does a pre-wash before the main cleaning cycle. It’s great.
Aha sussed it you must use a shorter drying cycle than me as my heavy setting takes 13.30 mins maybe I should cut mine down to save a bit of leccy
I really must get round to installing the new firmware as I always finish with a distilled water only rinse cycle
If there was ever an album to justify the investment in a Degritter…….
Getting ready for its first outing.
Buy the UK or US firsts pressings, and you will throw away that one
Yeah. I already have the UK first pressing and a U.S. original master pressing and the UK edges it. But this one is a live concert and not the studio recording.
