I am Getting Uneasy About Naim’s Change in Ownership

Hi

My system sounds very good and is a relatively recent series of updates. I have no technical issues at this time. Am I worrying unnecessarily?

I think it’s a bit early to worry, yes.
Plus recent servicing of your gear will stand you in good stead for quite some years.

Be of good cheer. For now.

Yes. Surely until we know what future plans may be there is absolutely no point in even thinking about it - it could turn out be the best thing that has happened to Naim, and for Naim users, with better products, more affordable options, improved support, (and a good website!), or it could be the worst. We simply have no way of knowing. Why worry about something over which you can have no control whatsoever?

The only possible valid consideration might be if you are about to buy some new kit, and the change might either make it cheaper, or more expensive, or discontinue it, on balance if that were me I’d be driven by my hifi intent and buy, as tge chances of massive reductions would seem remote, and the availability of some new better product within budget would likely be some time away. Meanwhile the gear you’ve got will last decades, and if Naim winds up there’ll still be people around to service.

For better or worse….the times change and we…….

Most probably . In the absence of a functioning crystal ball, we can either wait and see or sell off and jump ship. However, in today’s HiFi market there’s no guarantees, eg Made in the Far East supply chain issues impacting availability and warranty…..

If you’re happy, why act precipitately?

I purchased the equipment new in 2025. It is not in need of service. I am in NYC.

@Innocent_Bystander i have no plans to upgrade at this point. Very satisfied with my 332,333,NC250, NPX300(2), NVCTT,D7.2, P10 and Luxman CDP.

@Richard.Dane Did you move this to Lounge? Can you move it to HiFi Corner?

I did as the thread title more about Naim’s business than a hifi question, so more appropriate in the lounge.

Ok. No problem. Have a great day!

IMO it is perfectly reasonable to be at least slightly concerned re the changes at Naim.

Far worse things going on in the wider world at the moment to worry about a change of ownership at Naim.

Part of the reason people buy Naim is that you can get it serviced whilst Naim can still source parts or equivalents. Naim is still earning money from equipment sold in the 70s. Why would the new owners want to stop this? They might want servicing to bring in more revenue, but they will still offer this to customers.

Bean counters with a sense for good business, now there’s a novelty……..

Too cynical too early?

Just because Naim is changing hands is not the end of the world. Even if you bought a full Statement system yesterday, it isn’t going to stop working, it’s not suddenly going to sound bad. I would imagine well over 90% are fully happy with the system that we already own. If like me you don’t replace everything just because something new is on the market, why worry. After all we can all enjoy what we have for many many years to come, even if Naim never release another thing,

I know next to nothing about Barco’s business but I cannot imagine that they would have taken a position in Naim unless, after rigorous due diligence, they saw it as a business that they felt had a strong future (euphemism for an investment that makes sense to them financially). What is a passion for us, with that special brand loyalty we all love, has to be a viable business in a competitive space if it is to survive. None of us can do anything about any change of ownership but it seems to me that an owner that already has a successful tech business, and sees a future in Naim, is a better one than a corporate investor who sees Naim purely as an investment … or worse. So my feeling is that we should be optimistic.

Wait, what? Are Focal dumping NAIM?

No, Barco are buying Vervent (which includes Naim & Focal) from Alpha Private Equity;

Hmmm. So Focal own NAIM, Vervent own them both, now the whole kit and caboodle will be owned by Barco.

Crumbs from the corporate table in the pecking order moving forward, then.
