I didn’t know that?

I never knew that…Fraim is made by a third party. Well, that’s what the lady at Naim told me on the phone today. She had no idea of the name of the company, so was unable to give me any contact details.:astonished:

I am trying to contact them, to ask a very simple question. “What is the exact colour of the Fraim glass”?
I have been out and about today trying to source a slightly larger size of the glass (452 x 400) from made to measure glass companies.
There are countless threads on the Community site regarding this, but they do vary from ‘smoked’, ‘tinted’, ‘grey’, ‘black’ and even ‘anti sun’:sunglasses:

Basically, I have just bought a dCS Bartók, which does sit on the top level of my Fraim, but by the skin of its teeth! In fact it overhangs the front of the Fraim by 30mm. It looks naff!

It would be very much appreciated if someone (perhaps Richard) could tell me the third party name who makes them, or even better, the correct colour of the Fraim glass, without starting another topic on this.:grinning:

Thanks so much

Fraim is made up from a number of different suppliers. For example, originally it was Castle Acoustics who made the wooden shelf pieces. Then they went bust and another company was found to continue making them. IIRC the glass was made and supplied by Pilkington - probably still the same Pilkington 10mm toughened glass as in the beginning.

If you need a larger piece of glass I would take an existing piece to a glass cutter/supplier and they should be able to match the type, colour and edge finish for you in whatever size you need.

Thanks Richard for your input.
Only one out of three glass suppliers in Norwich had a sample, and I wasn’t convinced it was exactly the same as the Fraim glass which I showed them.
I’ll try a few more next week and give Pilkington a ring as well.
I didn’t want to guess it, get it home and it looks wrong.
Mind you, the amount of glass actually showing, is very minimal.
Thanks Richard.

Rather than a poor or uncertain match, there could be an argument for something deliberately contrasting or at least nuanced differently.

Thanks for that David👍

Try Kite Glass.

Thank you @Suedkiez.
I showed three glass companies the Fraim glass, and they all call the edge, a ‘Polished Edge’.
All three, also described it as Anti sun, grey toughened.

So, I I think you have confirmed this now, which is much appreciated.
Thanks

Nice to see a good system in the “fine city of Norwich!”

I have my system sitting on fraim and often think it’s not the prettiest but evaluating performance of different racks is a faff….

Fraims are not too bad looking, we could do a lot worse. :grinning:

Very nice, David. The Bartok is a lovely bit of kit and looks good atop your Fraim. I hope you are well.

Very nice looking, assuming the bartok replaced the ndx2?

Cheers James. Hope you are well too👍

The Bartók is the new Apex version.

The only slight issue is that the Bartók overhangs the front of the Fraim and looks a tad naff.:grinning:
However, steps are in place to remedy that.

Richard,

You have a great Fraim setup post that some of us has found to be very helpful.

Maybe you could add this info to it for future reference.

KR,

Ron

Is that the article in the FAQ section?
