I’m ready to upgrade, Merry Christmas to me

Like many of us out there, it’s been a tough but successful year. I have been out of the loop on the Forum lately, but am ready to now upgrade my rig, which is: NAC282 with NAPSC, NAP250DR, SuperCapDR, CD5 with CD555PS. I only listen to CDs

I may be in over my head, but have an offer in for a 2017 made rig of NAC552 with NAC552PSDR, and NAP500DR with NAPS500, so will see how that goes.

If it falls through, os the amp up from mine the 300DR? And what would be the preamp up from mine? Any/all info appreciated.

On the speaker front, each year I rotate in something new, have not found anything better IMO! than my Vandersteen 2Ce Signature iii’s.

Yes, 300DR is the next step up from 250DR.
252 is the next step from 282, followed by 552. The 252 can be powered by your Supercap. Personally I wouldn’t do the 300 until the better preamp was in place.

Good luck!

What he says.

The 250 is good enough to work with a better preamp (and an upgraded source).

Having heard various preamps with 250 and 300DR, I would personally not encourage any upgrade from the 250 until you have moved up from the (excellent) 282.

If you have the funds for the 552 plus DR PSU then if this one falls through, wait for another one to come up. The 250 will make good use of the 552 and then the next or final stage will be the 500DR. If both the 552 plus the 500 is a bit of a stretch then go for the 552DR plus a 300DR. The move to a 252 will achieve little if your path is eventually to a 552/500.

Cheers and thank you, breaking up the moves a bit like these suggestions makes sense. Also weighing the ratio out there of price VS. age of the units. Thank you, NAIM, for keeping excellent records for us.
