I really wish Naim would release a NEW cd player something possibly half width that could be upgraded with a Hi Cap,or Flat Cap.Really think they’re overlooking the demand for a product of this type!
Exposure has recently released a new CD player, it is a top loader and uses a Burr Brown DAC. Not half width though.
Yes,they did which is great ! Not sure about actual availability though.
Plenty of great cd player’s and transports to choose from right now already.
Plus they don’t cost a fortune.
Uniti Core???
Goldnote have released a new one just as you describe, half width, looks nice.
Cyrus I think have also announced new range, pricer one though, circa 3k.
Although the one that caught my eye is the new Michi player, looks very cool.
Yes,wish Naim would follow Goldnote’s approach and Cyrus and Heed. There IS a market for this!
I agree
They do an XM CD player which looks half width I think as well as full width
I have talked to them this year, they will not
They do make the overlooked and undervalued CD5si. Many here seem to dismiss it as “ entry level” For what it’s worth, I’m very happy with mine and hear no reason to complicate or upgrade
It would be a welcome comeback in my view but they would have to bring back the Hicap and/or Flatcap into the product line-up as they are currently discontinued to have your suggested upgrade path.
Perhaps it could fit into the current range with the NPX 300 PSU as an upgrade.
Sadly it is likely I will have to look elsewhere for a replacement for a CD player when my venerable CD5 (been running for 20+ years) has bit the dust.
You are right of course and the CD5si is a fine player to be fair though Naim themselves describe the unit as “entry level” on their website.
I could indeed go that route when my present unit pops its clogs but in some ways, it shows Naim’s lack of commitment to the medium and if they can’t be bothered I am not sure I can either. A unit that matches in with the new range would be a different matter alongside the CD5si.
Personally I think Naim are missing a trick they do not seem adverse into spending a lot of time, effort and one would assume by default money into producing a limited edition high end turntable in the Solstice but do not want to offer anything on the CD front other than the CD5Si.
I’m sure if they used their expertise built up over the years in producing an excellent 4 model range in more recent years they could produce a new signature player that would be well received by all people who have large CD collections and have no intention of ditching the format.
You only have to look at what Hegel have done with the excellent Viking player to see that their is still a market and lots of life left in the good old shiny silver disk.
NO. Wasted resources.
As in how ? Wasted resources? Could make the same argument then for Naim’s Solstice Turntable (built by Clearaudio) that most baulked at buying at $20K U.S.D.
The Naim Uniti Core is far more adaptable with an internal SSD than a stand-alone CD player.
Core plus nDAC is an outstanding CD playback combo.
Core plus nDAC/PS555DR is superb - yes I have this combo.
Think you all will have to wait a long time for a new nain cd player
The reason for that is, naim are still getting to grips with dac’s without the old burr brown chip’s.
You will see a few new dac/streamers added to the line up well before a cd player i think.
Even if Naim were to make a new cd player, it is very likely to sound different to the old generation of players. The new NC kit sounds different to the older amps/ streamers, which some like, some don’t.
If there was a high demand for a Naim CD player, then the CDX2 etc would not have been dropped. A few people asking for one on a forum is not an indicator of demand sufficient to make it commercially viable.
