I haven’t read every post in the New Classic threads (they are quite long). So perhaps this has been explored already. But I’m curious as to whether anyone has auditioned the NC 350s fed by Old Classic 500-series components, ND555 and NAC552. Do they clash or complement each other?
Really enjoying 552 into 350s to Shahinian Obelisks. Upgraded from 300 non-DR. LP12/NDS as sources. Naim interconnects between 552 and 350s. Much better bass control and “openness”
Naim have stated that good as the 350s are, they don’t reach the performance of the 500. I think the consensus is that they are a step up from the 300 albeit with a different sound signature.
I had a very early non-DR NAP300, that I slotted in side an active system, replacing a pair of NAP135s. I also had 2 more 135s and a 500 completing the ‘sixpack’.
So I had a lot of time to compare the 135, 300 and 500, and found that the 300 was neither fish nor fowl. Yes, it was a little bit less grainy than the 135s, but the 135s seemed to have more slam and alacrity. The differences were however small and could reduce to a matter of taste and system compatability.
Both the 135 and 300 were destroyed by the 500.
So in the context of my system, I would have been happy to either forego the 300 and stick with the 135s, or find the extra stretch to move to a 500.
So it would come as no surprise to me if Naims updated monoblocks outdid a non-DR 300.
We heard Sonus Faber Serafino G2 with both 300DR and 350s.
No comparison really.
The 300DR is excellent and we enjoy it every day at home with baby SF.
But the 350s are in a completely different league with bigger 4 ohm loads.
The 350s are by far the best bit of the new 300 series to our ears.
