maybe it his a good sign to start from new after the 5k plus thread.
Here we can post our impressions on the new FW from today on.
I really hope that it will be the winner we are all looking so much forward too.
… and this thread is the evolving to new “Happy with FW” thread.
Come on … post all your impressions here…
Organic sound back? Rich sound? Bass definition? Texture? !!! Harshness and Sibilance… ? Sound compared to cohens test hearing (only Cohen can tell )
Yes and no… my chance of liking/loving is much better when a big FW party is going on. A doubt will remain… that’s the sad part. But I am positive I can manage it.
I am not hesitating because to stay on 3.10 - no!
Only do not want to to have a fair NDS/ND555 comparison.
Makes no difference to me now Drago, as both my Naim ND Streamers were replaced with Linn DSM’s just over a week ago.
What I can say with absolute certainty is that my listening has been totally unaffected by the new FW release…
It takes a few days to come on-tune for many of us, so get it onto the ND555 to settle.
There were several on Beta-test who also found it took a few days - immediatley clear but a bit soft, then clear-muffled-clearer-…etc.
I found an early Beta version of 3.11 took some ten days to be acceptable then another week to begin to sound rather special and another week and my Dealer heard it (while servicing my old Linn oil) and was extremely impressed.
The present FW version is two iterations on from that so my ‘journey’ was away from 3.10.1 via these early versions and to be frank it felt it took a bit of time for all the 3.10 ‘sound’ to get flushed-out from the ND555 and it to recover from that ordeal - get the FW installed.
Settings - turn all digital inputs off (if they are not in use).
It is a cleaner more detailed sound that takes time to properly run-in and the electrolytics to recover and get their linearity back (just my thoughts).
Bass reproduction is very good clarity into very low notes now - quite disturbing on some music where that just appeared where it was a nice wash of ‘bass’ before.
Mid is clean and open and top-end is exteneded and detailed - good on cymbals and things of that kind - but let it run-in for a week to lose any final ‘edge’ effects at low-level.
Timing and music ‘grabbing attention’ is excellent.
I now have this same FW version so I’m just a week or so ahead in my run-in.
Two hours in and it’s still sounding marvelous. I’ve already had my mate with the 500/800 Ovator system call me this morning, saying how impressed he was with the sound.
Just to reinforce my previous thoughts on the update, the tonal accuracy of instruments are, once again, staggeringly good. Piano has that unmistakable depth of tone. Bass is still deep but it also has more ‘shape’. There seems to be a greater poise between notes, almost like the timing has improved. Just listening to some vocals and they were just dripping with emotion. It’s so good to have that typical Naim sound back again. At this rate it might even be declared better than 3:8!
We’ve had this tuned final version in the beta group for a little while. My reaction on hearing it was just like yours, that the Naim sound is back. Music flows beautifully. It just sounds right.
