Almost literally made the changes DB suggested. The big differentiator was for me to put the charging of the rear USB again on. I still have not put on Dig 2 , seems now more acceptable.
Will keep experimenting and see if this is the best setting.
So all multiroom off. Dig 1 on, Qobuz on, USB on with front no charging, back with charging.
Well it canāt be denied really can it? Although changes in sound via input on/off settings are more subtle than FW changes they are clearly audible to the majority of us.
If itās any comfort to others out there I seem to have made a major improvement to 3:11ās performance but Iām not 100% sure why?
I think Iāve mentioned before that my initial update from 3:10 to 3:11 went very well with a noticeable improvement in all areas. Then a week or so into my euphoria it was suggested that a power-down and power-up of the ND was beneficial. The trouble is it wasnāt. In fact the system sounded pretty grim after this and had me shaking my head. Bass sounded very odd and I had some of the glare people had be mentioning that definitely wasnāt there before the power down. Nothing I did seem to improve matters until I decided, last week, to do a hard reboot.
The improvement was instant. In fact the system was now sounding really really good. Trouble is, about two days later, we had a power cut for about an hour. This had me somewhat worried but when it came back on I was even more surprised as Iām convinced it sounded even better!
Iād almost say that it was sounding as good as 3:8 because Iām really struggling to find any areas of criticism at the moment. Brave words, I know!
One downside to the hard reboot is that you have to reset everything but I used the same settings I originally had, everything off except inputs 1, 2 and 4.
Thatās quite interesting. Iāve just got my NSC 222 back from Naim - they had replaced the ādigital boardā to stop the incessant clicking in Standby. In the meantime (2 weeks) Iāve had a loan SuperUniti, but despite that I feel sure my 222 is now sounding better - less harsh on powerful female vocals for instance Essentially, itās had a hard reboot (my dealer kindly reset everything for me). Am I dreaming?
The loan unit does sound better than mine - cleaner and more confidant and the settings are totally different from being with another customer that had loads of automation settings enabled, so I get all the āPreamp 1 throgh 6ā appering on the Naim App as ā1 off/5-6 onā (whereas Iād never seen these as options at all before on the App) - and dig 1 on, 2-4 off, spottify on, Chromecast on, Qobuz on (I donāt have that), Tidal off (which I actually want on).
Anyway - Iām trying it āas it isā before attempting to ātune itā later.
When I borrowed another white led 555 a few months ago it sounded better than mine but was bright - too bright with 3.10 to live with, but it does seem to gel better with 3.11
Naim will assess my unit as part of the fixing of the relay (I lost LH DIN challel, but both RCA worked) but they say normally at the age mine is they will not recomend a re-cap.
I donāt think you are dreaming and I think DBās mentioned before that there does seem to be quite an extended āsettlingā period with the NDās firmware. I noticed that over time with both iterations of 3:10, which did improved a fair bit. However, Iām definitely impressed with what the hard reboot has done for me on 3:11!
I asked if the white LED made any sonic chage - and was told it was a bit better for some reason due to the way they are operatedā¦but I still like the green, even if my Statement says otherwise.
I totally agree. Sooner or later Naim have to start listening to the feedback on the current Sound Signature of their Flagship streamer. Seems like they are losing a lot of ground to alternate brands. I know that I certainly would not drop any further cash on Naim kit given what has transpired over the last 10 months.
Struggling along with 3.11 trying to make the best of the situation, but a change will be in the air for CC come Spring26. JG and the team may rate their shiny new sound, but it is not for me. An hour or so listening is more then enought to make you ears beg for a rest bite. This was not the case with 3.8 which captured your soul.
In the meantime, for what its worth I am going to write to the head honcho in Salisbury to vocalise my concerns. Will probably have Zero effect, but its no use sitting here whinging, without trying to initiate a sensible response from HQ.
You like myself CC are amongst only maybe a handful of forum guys who havenāt flip flopped with regard to was 3.8 better than 3.11? Tweaking and settings obviously help 11 but IMO something fundamental has been lost which you and I clearly loved. I will be at the forum HQ visit in three weeks time so obviously I will broach the FW subject if given an opportunity.
Iām in agreement with both of you and if 3.8 was made available tomorrow, even if it had a premium price, Iād gladly pay it. However, I think that ship has well and truly sailed but Iām not sure Naim are even on the bridge let alone in the wheel-house!
Last week I was seriously thinking about a change but with the improvement I seemed to have gained with the reboot Iām in a kind of āpauseā mode again.
My name should be as default on the list⦠very sad with 3.11 all over⦠3.11 is good, but if you know the heart touching signature from before, for me there is no question.
I would also pay a lot to get 3.8 back!
In my system, with good (not stellar) room treatment and fanatic removal of any RF interference, on well recorded music that is acoustic (with amplified music you have less of a baseline for judging, since you are not hearing the instrument you are hearing the instrument+electronic manipulation), 3.11 (with tweaks) sounds better than 3.8 (although I only listened to it for 6 weeks or so). The difference (for the better) is fairly clear.
