Trouble is, they went up from £5.95 to £6.10 in my pub last week…

I don’t like minimum alcohol pricing but even when you factor that in supermarket prices are really hitting pubs when the ‘on tap’ beers/lagers won’t be much better than what comes out of a can/bottle.

Really sad to see what’s happening to the UK’s pub industry.

Don’t have many pubs around us in the villages now, most of them have closed down, but some have become Indian restaurants.

The small market town where I live has four, but one keeps shutting then re-opening under new owners. However, when we had a thriving livestock market, we did have 13 pubs.

Unfortunately, what was left of the livestock market, sheep only closed after the last Foot and Mouth outbreak.

This was a bit mind blowing to me. A pint was 2 quid when I left the UK and I thought that was scary expensive at the time. With one post from @Jamiewednesday I feel both really old and really poor at the same time. What a downer.

I was about to tell you what a pint now costs down here in London but decided against to keep you on the right side of sanity :grimacing:

I think it was 2019 or so when I read a news article that there were more Indian curry meals served on a yearly basis than fish and chips.

Surely just them there £3.50 pints charged all over London at your local ‘spoons?

Cheaper than that with a CAMRA voucher. So I’m told.

Oh Chicken Tikka Masala was the national dish (which was concocted for British tastes anyway, it’s not a traditional Indian dish) as far back as the mid 90s.

Similarly on Japan, there are more Chinese restaurants than Japanese ones.

Use to be able to get great Chinese here and in every country town. When I was young it was the most exotic place to eat plus they did take away.

Now they’re all Thai or some damn hybrid and generally not that good.

You pay big money in fancy Chinese restaurants in Sydney now for stuff that was quite cheap and everywhere.

My google news feed pushed this to me today. An older review of Naim but interesting.

Gee this seems to be a stretch too far, we had a similar thing here but after the owners got the proper paperwork the magpie was returned.

I guess the difference here we don’t have rabies.

During the time (2002-20010) I was in Tokyo, I always thought Chinese restaurants were kind of exotic and more high-end than the local Japanese ones.

I forget, whereabouts in Japan are you?

We’ve settled in Hokkaido in 2020 after working in Tokyo for over 15 years.

Nice. Turning very autumnal just now then…

Saw an article in The Telegraph earlier about an upcoming documentary which looks very endearing for animal lovers. YouTube link about a man and an otter:

The news/press is generally so depressing it’s nice to see something like this.

I really didn’t want to find out that farmers spread human bio-solids from water treatment companies over their fields.
