Industry delays

Seems there are quite some delays in the HiFi industry at the moment…some examples are Arcam SA35/45 which were originally planned for Oct 24…still no sign. Also Roksan Caspian 4G Power Amplifier was due 2025, now shifted to 2026.

Maybe still ongoing supply chain issues…?

Chips and rough materials go for drones, vehicles and rounds?

It’s still pretty bad. Luxman announced their streamer in 2021. Did’t appear for another three years. Denon put their AVC6800H on their website as a “current model” but it was over 12 months before they could ship any.

Lots of manufacturers are switching the specs on production units to get things out the door with what’s available.

I believe the reasons are various. Supply chains are a complex thing.

No supply problems in the wider electronic industry I have come across professionally… in fact in the IT space supply line lead times seem reduced to what I remember historically which has been catching us out. I guess the Covid experience changed many ‘just in time’ supply practices to make them more resilient / shock resistant.
However money is generally tighter these days in much of the world and I think that is affecting things in some markets and delaying product development.

I work in electronics manufacturing and I agree there are no current supply chain issues - skilled workers is a different issue though for us.

I hadn’t considered this but this rings completely true.

In the industry I work in, the problem we see is a chronic shortage of skilled and experienced people. Not because they cannot be found. Companies simply don’t want to pay for them and I am seeing people with deep knowledge and experience be cut loose to be replaced by semi/unskilled people. A lot of companies have decided they do not want to pay for skilled workers and are trying to shed them until things (deliverables, deadlines, QA SLAs) start breaking.

I can’t really safely say more this side of retirement. But the problem seems to be widespread and dire.

I’m afraid that Oscar Wilde’s “the cost of everything and the value of nothing” seems to be a mantra of industry/public sector atm and will come with a sting in the tail.

This is sometimes true, but many public sector contracts, especially for technology services do tend to follow MAT principles where bids for propositions are assessed on a wider range of factors beyond just price, including quality, innovation, sustainability, and social impact… though price in the scoring is usually quite a large percentage, but not always dominant… so if you don’t win price you normally need to win on two or more dominant areas.
Sustainability and social impact have also risen in significance in recent years (in my experiences)
