IN fairness to roon they do recommend keeping the server away from the hifi. Which i how I do it. My main higi has daphile as the endpoint.
IPeng is port for a £10 app, but one thing it does that Roon and others do not is media controls on the lock screen or better still via an iOS widget.
Yep something that annoys me no end. Likely down to the fact it’s not a native iOS or Android app. But it does do it if your using the phone as an endpoint for some odd reason.
But not reliably. I couldn’t get it to work; nor could Mrs. H. Spoke to support but they can’t solve it. Looked I support forums and it’s a known issue. Hit and miss at best.
Can you point me in the right direction to look at this please. Google search isn’t helping. Do you control your innuos with an Android or apple device or a pc? Edit, found it. Appears to be a browser version of an ipeng type app. Still can’t find any easy way to add tracks to a playlist. Stuck with Roon until version 2 comes out at least I suspect
Instructions are further up within this very thread.
I tried LMS 8.2 recetly and the Material Skin. its still LMS with all its quirks. I found it kept constantly rescanning by entire Qobuz library again and again so couldnt use it. Its idea of merging streaming with locsl stuff is horrid to its just so basic. I hope Innuos manage to make it better than what LMS does.
I think they will achieve that at minimum. The rescan issue is interesting. Can’t say it’s a problem I’ve experienced when trialling a Qobuz sub.
I run it on Vortexbox OS and a server I kept from my LMS days. It never did it on v7 but then it didnt merge it with My Music. I only used it recently again to test a theory and thought I would try it out. I have no hurry to go back to it. The material skin is in improvement but found it rather buggy on windows, worked wel as an app though on Android, much nicer than Orange Squeeze which is what I used to use.
Fair enough. I’ve no need for Windows other than to buy downloads and then shift them to the Innuos auto download folder. Material Skin is painless on iOS.
I think the way Innuos have handled this is setting themselves up for failure, in terms of more criticism.
It would have been better to say nothing and just dump the app, then work on features and fixes.
However they are now teasing with features each week, by default again upsetting many who want something else, then on top of that no doubt software issues to fix.
Shame it wasn’t just Innuos 1.5 a basic control app and then add function, if they think Innuos 2.0 will give Roon 1.8 competition I think they are delusional.
I’ve not seen anything but consumers talking up the “giving Roon a run for their money” angle. Our problem rather than theirs. The reality is they are aren’t competing. Roon has barely 100,000 users. Plenty of room for more fish in that sea.
Innuos are being quite shrewd in setting up an ecosystem and the poor publicity for this is nonetheless more publicity than they have ever had. All such devices have a limited audience so I’m still not seeing what the issue is.
It only acts as a remote when I am using the laptop for other things, saves having to use another device for control, server runs on dedicated Vortexbox OS box that also looks after Plex, any other time i would use the phone.
How do you find Plex? That’s something which has caught my eye.
For Video its unsurpassed. For Music passable, I only use it to access my own music out of the house via PlexAmp which is their pure audio client but its far from perfect. It only supports Tidal and its integration is not great but better than most (except Roon) its not bit perfect on iOS or Android, only windows I believe. They have a pi client but its an old version not the more modern version on pc/mac and mobile. PlexAmp on mobile cant control other endpoints only cast, but they are working on that but it wont support Hifi kit outsiside of Airplay or Chromecast as its not using UPnP to stream via their app.
The main Plex app us not good for audio as searching brings up videos as well so becomes messy, its much better for video and use PlexAmp for audio. You need to have their PlexPass sub to use PlexAmp I believe. I got lifetime PlexPass when it first came out years ago.
That’s really useful thank you. I’d seen Darko talking about it but it lacked sufficient detail. I don’t need music on the move but the rest of the family do. Just realised I’ve solved the car issue through having the Innuos. Whole music collection backed up to a 1TB USB stick. Mrs. H. is very happy.
He uses it for mobile use case so he has his own music not what the services have. For this it works really well you can either stream it over internet or for times with no net sync it from server to mobile before your go, client is speedy and simple to use for syncing.
Innuos are launching their first ‘inn-sights’ weekly blog tomorrow with a series on 2.0
Link?
Saw that, hadn’t realised it was a weekly post. Should be interesting
