Innuos mk2 zenith vs mk3 zen

Morning, any thoughts on the above? I have a mk2 zenith and is it worth moving to a mk3 zen to take advantage of sense 3?
Currently running Roon but it looks like ‘Roon radio’ function is coming to sense so probably only on innuos 3

I have a Zenith Mk III, however, I’m not sure I’d bother upgrading unless I had to - after all, it’s ’just’ a Linux server after all…… especially if it’s still working 100%.

Unless that is you want to use Sense v3.x as your primary app?

I have an Innuos Zen MK2 and have been thinking about upgrading it as well. I think Innuos will come with some new products in 2025 Zenith/Zen 4? Hopefully they won’t be too expensive

Sound wise there is a clear jump, albeit one which for some simply won’t be enough to justify the cost. Sense is a different thing altogether. It’s a joy to use; is forever being improved based on user feedback rather than beta tester feedback and is probably only second to Roon feature wise.

Many words have been written on how much easier browsing your music is when streaming. Much of it is giddy nonsense not especially grounded in the reality. I’d say there’s an increasing number of apps which do make it easier to take advantage of online access but Sense is at the head of the pack.

Innuos do have a new range of Zen/Zenith Next Gen servers released recently, £9k/£14k (storage extra). I would guess that the current range of the Zen/Zenith will be phased out over the next few years. You can check details on the Innuos site.

@Hifi-dog I think now is a good time to buy, some Innuos users over the last year have moved to the Pulse/Pulsar range plus the introduction of the Zen/Zenith Next Gen series have resulted in an increased number of Zeniths on the second hand/ex demo market. Some good prices around.

Yeah there is a mk3 zen on eBay that promoted this question… if sense radio comes on line then I will move away from Roon …

It always saddens me somewhat when companies launch pretty decent products at very reasonable prices for the masses and then invariably move up a few rungs to the uber pricing categories within a few years. Auralic (with their fantastic Aries mini) have done similar.

Innuos always seemed “one of the good guys” to me from reading about them on various fora. And sure who doesn’t want to make more money? They have moved mentally for me to be just “one of the other guys’”with their latest sprint up the pricing ladder.

Yes, I have seen that new range of Zen/Zenith Next Gen servers, but think they are far too expensive.

I recently had some correspondence with someone who swapped a Zen Mini MK 3 + LPS with a Zenith SE MK 2, and was questioning the move. It might be worth looking at a s/h Mini combo, or for a bigger upgrade, a s/h Zenith MK3. Sense 3 is very good.

I kind of assumed that the software + App is platform independent to large extent. I would be disappointed to find it stops working. I have never bothered to upgrade promptly. I am quite happy sound wise.

In my experience they are.

The Pulse/Pulsar family allows music lovers interested only in streaming to optimise SQ while saving money and rack space, paying only for what they will use.

Equally, the NextGen PSUs are offered as upgrades to existing owners as well as new products. So no one is obliged to choose them. We are free to do without or upgrade when funds allow.

That’s hardly an evil money-grabbing approach.

Credit where credit is due…

is he happy with the swap having lived with it for a bit? I’ve had the mk2 mini and lpsu in the past and the mk 2 zenith is way way better. The mk 3 mini would have to be amazing to push the mk2 zenith out?

I use a zenith no 3 - it’s been flawless and I love the sense app.

Compared to my old unity serve it was a major upgrade…

I can’t compare it to any other innuos products and the statement is a bit too pricey as are the latest generations - don’t mind Innuos being profitable but shelling out a lot of money for tech that will always evolve doesn’t sit well with me!

I would like to see a Zen/Zenith MK4 without a CD ripper but with SSD Storage

You are describing the already available Zen/Zenith Next-Gen, no CD ripper and SSD storage.

I don’t think it is the replacement and they have also mentioned that there will be new products in 2025. Zen/Zenith Next-Gen is too expensive compared to Zen/Zenith MK3

I didn’t pick up on the cost dimension, the last I read was the Zenith would remain for the time being and there was no direct replacement currently planned.
Maybe worth asking the question on the Innuos forum, usually get a quick answer.

Didn’t notice the loss of the CD ripper, obviously Innuos consider the day of the CD to be well and truly over :slightly_frowning_face:.

I’m not that familiar with the details of the Zen/Zenith Next-Gen, the product description talks about CD ripping via external USB drive, no doubt an additional cost. I agree with @Keano16 it’s very expensive compared to a Zenith Mk3.
