I have ordered an Innuos Stream1 and am now wondering if I should choose to get it with the SPDIF Board. It will be used with my Naim NSC 222 and was wondering if it is worth spending money on?
2 streamers?.
I want to use it to stream my local files to my Naim NSC 222. It will replace my Zen MK2. Is there anything strange about it? It is a server/streamer after all
I think you’d have the spdif output to feed a dac.
The 222 would stream direct from the innuos upnp server.
Or with the spdif output on the innuos, that makes it the streamer and the 222 acts as a preamp only, via its digital input.
Do I understand you correctly? That I don’t have to buy SPDIF Board and just connect via USB
You would connect to your network via Ethernet, and the 222 will see the innuos upnp server.
You could get a NAS for ÂŁ500 that would sound just as good. The Stream 1 is a streamer as well as a server, and you already have the excellent 222. If you want Innuos you could get one of their cheaper servers.
besides the old DAC V1 I don’t think any of Naim’s DACs or Steamers have USB input. So you could use the Innuos Steam1 two ways. As a storage unit only, with the Naim App used to choose and control music. Or by using the much better Sense App (Innuos’ own) and enabling UPNP. So that you’re serving the 222 with music.
If you get the SPDIF add on board, you have a 3rd option. But still use the Sense app.
I think a NAS makes too much noise, so that’s not the way I want to go. The Innuos stream1 is the cheapest at the moment since the Zen MK3 is discontinued. But I’m open to other suggestions.
I have Innous Zenith NG with SPDIF board connecting to ND555 Digital… I like it and i use this option mainly now. I like it. It sounds better with Sense App
It was also my idea to use Sense App and enabling UPNP.
yes this is a fairly new option in Sense App. I can’t vouch for it myself as I now have an Auralic Vega S1, which does not have a UPNP protocol.
But I still use my Innuos Zen Mini3.
Either via USB to the Vega DAC, or in storage mode, with the Vega S1’s streamer enabled and Auralic’s lousy App.
I do like what Innuos has done with the new Steamer1 product. Allowing for add-ons and also to add your own storage.
a few years back I ended up swapping my ZenMini’s HDD with an SSD and it made the device a lot snappier, and quieter as well. This was not advised to do yourself. But it worked.
Your 222 can already stream your local files. So what is the goal in having the Stream 1?
With an external dac it has sense, but with a 222 I don’t see.
A better server Nas, connected by Ethernet, yes.
Qnap make a silent NAS. Put SSD drives in and you have a good silent solution. It can live in another room altogether.
I run a fanless Synology NAS with 2 Samsung SSD drives. As HH says..dead silent.
Cheap option.
So you also have 2 streamers?
I’ve thought a lot about which solution to choose. I don’t want NAS and USB through my NSC 222 gives excellent sound, but the music library could be a bit better. The Innuos Sense app is really good and you can add your own storage. I think it’s the best solution for me
The stream1 gives you the option to start a second room system, just add headphone amp/dac. It’s a thought.
Had a chat with my dealer about the Stream1 and he doubted how much of an improvement it would make. I have therefore cancelled the deal and will continue with my MK2 for now.
I hope we see a new Naim Core this year
