Recently I noted crosstalk when my pressed another input on my 552 preamp.
So normal position for streaming is cd input. If I press the adjacent button “tuner” on preamp the music I’m streaming goes silent as expected. However I can faintly still hear music from my loudspeakers. When I mute the lower “record” buttons the crosstalk disappears. So I left it muted since I thought the sound quality should improve.
Well I discovered that with the mute button unmuted the sound was better… more open, more air just a bit better. This was counterintuitive as I would have thought that muting the crosstalk would be advantageous.
Would be curious as to whether anyone else would have similar findings
It’s easy to try

with the 282 Naim recommend that the Record section mute is enabled as this improves SQ.
I personally cannot detect any difference regardless of Record mute position
The conventional wisdom with the 552 for best playback quality is to (i) mute the Record bank, (ii) select the Record bank input that’s furthest from the one you’re listening to and (iii) turn the display illumination off.
I do this all the time because I’m a bit obsessive, but I wouldn’t swear that I can hear any difference that it makes.
