Watched all episodes of Small Prophets. It’s nowhere as good as Detectorists. The script is poor in quite a lot of places and the acting generally weak. I don’t understand how Mackenzie let it get like that. I enjoyed it a lot and look forward to the next series. It’s what tv used to be like in the 70s-80s.
I agree with your comments. I watched it due to all the favourable reviews. I must admit however that the fantasy/fairy stuff has never appealed to me in anyway at all in anything & Small Prophets has done nothing to change that.
BUT……I never saw Detectorists as I missed the first few episodes & thought I would not be able to follow it jumping in half way through. I have now binged watched it & found it to be absolutely superb & very memorable.
It makes Small Prophets look like McKenzie Crooks’ difficult second album as far as I am concerned.
We have watched 3 episodes so far. Quite enjoying it, the urban setting and characters gives it a very different feel to the Detectorists which seemed to have a more relaxed charm.
Believe it or not after I commented I did wonder if you were commenting from a professional stance and one which you are rightly very proud of.
Prosthesis/prostheses are pretty familiar to me in the medical sense.
I think my familiarity with ‘prosthetics’ as a phrase largely comes from TV/Movies, especially sci-fi related as I can recall Babylon 5 over 30 years ago being nominated for and winning Emmys for their alien ‘prosthetics’.
We’ve been watching all three series of The Diplomat on Netflix, which we have really enjoyed ![]()
Prosthetics again!
Purchased Darkest Hour several years ago during an iTunes sale - really enjoyed Gary Oldman’s portrayal of Churchill.
I feel the need to watch The Imitation Game again.
We watched ‘ We will Dance again “ on iplayer over the weekend, a tough watch, just how can people be so cruel to each other.
Anyone notice the LP12 in last episode of season 1 of ‘drops of god’?
Season 3 of the Night Agent on Netflix - the usual hokum and so fast paced you don’t have time to register the plot holes. A tad far-fetched - POTUS making shed loads of dodgy money on the back of his position - really?
As if. What a ridiculous notion!
Yeah what stupid plot, who’d do something like that
My wife thinks that’s about me. ![]()
Surely was the dog ![]()
Dirty Business
Quite shocking how the water industry can get away with these sort of activities. Well worth watching.
You mean the investment companies, surely.
Finished S3 of Tehran over the weekend. Throughly gripping with added contemporary relevance.
I have just finished watching these three programmes on Ch4 streaming service. Scary! I hadn’t realised it was so bad, nor so widespread. A million discharges of untreated sewage in 2024 alone! I wonder if it’s been discovered in time or if the action to be taken will be adequate. Until that time, there’s no way I’ll be persuaded to go swimming in U.K. rivers or coastal waters.
finished Lord of the flies plus the how they made it episode.
We didn’t binge watch as I found it a bit uncomfortable however we did find it quite special.
The acting the style of production all added to a very alien feel.
Won’t ever watch it again but pleased I did.
So many streaming services ![]()
Anyone used MGM+?
Took out a trial via Prime yesterday to enable youngest daughter to watch a movie which seems to be no longer available on the other half a dozen subs I have!
There might be some fun original shows on there but there seems to be a big overlap with Paramount+.
