FYI, having watched ER until ~ S8/9 and then started watching The Pitt, the latter, whilst good, isn’t a patch on ‘early ER’ IMHO.
Making Life On Earth. A thoroughly joyous and entertaining one off programme looking at the making of David Attenborough’s ‘Life On Earth’ which first aired in 1979 and changed the nature of wildlife programmes and the way that we thought of our planet ( most people anyway). What is amazing is that most of the people who made the original series are still around and in amazing nick. None more so than DA himself who is just incredible - witty, urbane, intelligent, committed and very persistent. Old age and frailty worry me but if I can make it to 100 in his physical and mental condition then I will be very happy. An utterly life-affirming programme
There was a broadcast interview of DA the other day on R6 with Jarvis Cocker. I couldn’t believe how lucid engaging and with it DA is at the age of 100. I can barely string three interesting sentences together and I’m only 45 ![]()
Seems like your memory is going too…
She recently described some poor soul’s soup as “pond like”
Yes, great programme and glad I recorded it last night. Not enough new documentaries of that quality of late.
Where is David Bellamy though
Martin
I think the interview was a repeat of their interview from 2013 rather than now but not sure. It was a wonderful interview though.
In the corner with some compost?
Thought I’d give SNL UK a go. Wow. So poor. I mean really poor.
Lurking in the undergrowth ?
‘Bellameee…Bellameee..’.
3 episodes into a tense gripping crime drama on Netflix called Legends. Set in the 80’s, the Thatcher government asks HM customs to investigate and crack drugs gangs through an undercover operation. Really good stuff … so far. Steve Coogan plays the customs manager overseeing the operation. Well acted and authentic in its depiction of 80’s Britain.
Written by Dundee’s very own Neil Forsyth. ‘Guilt’ and ‘The Gold’ also highly recommended if not already enjoyed.

Excellent
He disappeared, didn’t he? I considered doing a PhD under his supervision, but was dissuaded by my professors.
Sadly left us in 2019, but before that he went against the flow and thought climate change was more cyclical than the result of human interaction. He became persona non grata after that.
I remember he changed some of his opinions and thoughts on the sum reasons for climate change as he got older. When I looked this up, it seems he flipped back the other way a bit after being misled by a piece of false/discredited data from some charlatan.
I also remember an interview (with Terry Wogan?) where his thoughts were that climate change was part man made, part natural cycles (albeit accelerated by the rapid growth of human population in the previous 100 years). It was only a few years previously we were all being warned about the advance of the glaciers and the likelihood of a new ice age, so I guess he felt that proven data was subject to change…
Whether he was wrong, right, a bit wrong, a bit right, he felt the fact that he had opinions not shared by others led to his being ignored. I guess what we would now refer to as being ‘cancelled’.
On balance I can’t help but remember him as someone who did a tremendous amount of good, whether through direct actions or enthusiastically educating the UK TV watching public.
