Do I need to update firmware on my
Superuniti as all my internet radio station have dissapeared. They’re on my list of presets, but selecting them is silent. Connected via ethernet and streaming from NAS Drive is all good.
Yes
Many thanks. I’m on 4.7 and was loathe to upgrade. If it ain’t broke…. And now it is
You can go direct to 4.9 from 4.7….
I’ve just read the upgrade instructions and I need a fully wired usb lead. Don’t know if my man drawer has one, any recommendations? Mine are for ipad and iPhone so are probably charging leads
Just buy something cheap on Amazon. You don’t need anything special but it must be wired for data, which many such leads that one has knocking around weren’t.
When buying a cable, make sure the description mentions data transfer rate etc. If yes, then it’s the correct cable. If it only mentions “charging” then it’s the wrong cable.
This for example, is a correct cable and is the one I used: Amazon Basics USB-A to Mini USB 2.0 Cable, 480Mbps Transfer Speed with Gold-Plated Plugs, 1.82 m, Black : Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories
Thanks for that. A wealth of knowledge as always. My old sony laptop is windows 7, fingers crossed
Downloaded 4.9 installation package. Followed pdf instructions to the letter. However, after installing Driver for com ports usb to uart, they werent showing in device manager (windows 7 on a sony vaio) even after selecting show hidden. Had to add action and manually add ports before showing. Unfortunately this has yellow exclamation mark and “cannot start” version 6.7 driver. Does this mean a trip to dealer to let them update firmware? Has anyone else had issues.
Before you run the updater program, you have to connect all the leads and restart or start the Naim streamer. Then you can start the updater program and at the appropriate point look for the port, which should start just fine.
Windows 11 user here. Driver never appeared in DeviceManager after installation. However, after connecting to my device (naim 272) and running the install program, the COM port did appear in device manager and I continued with 0 issues. After unplugging cables and rebooting my laptop, the com port is no longer seen. Therefore I think it’s reasonable to assume it only appears when everything is connect, which I find bizarre. I won’t comment on the fact that the naim box used serial coms for updating. I mean, it’s not really that old and supports ip, so why did the updater use serial?
Ok, thanks, I’ll try that. Are you saying the port won’t show until it detects the streamer is connected?
It would be so much easier if the usb port on the streamer ran the update through a downloaded program on a usb stick.
Yes exactly what I was saying. I have done maybe fifty such upgrades over the years, what with all the beta testing and having several streamers.
All done and running as expected. Thanks for all your help. It threw me when the instruction said to check com port and it wasn’t showing on my laptop as I didnt think it had to be powered up first.
that’s what I found. At first I was wondering if I was “up the creak without a paddle” and the driver wasn’t supported under Windows 11. But I gave it a shot, connected to the 272 and ran the update program, and the port magically appeared. Looked again a day later (out of curiosity) and the port was gone again. I’ve been too lazy to see if it would reappear if I connected everything up again
Sorry, I hadn’t noticed your comment just above mine. The whole process is quite straight forward. It’s just the installation guide isn’t quite perfect and if people are a bit apprehensive about making the update, it can be a bit disconcerting when the guide doesn’t quite match up to what people are seeing
Glad it works. I experienced exactly the same with my Superuniti. Just before throwing away the laptop, because I did not get the device manager to show drivers, I thought, let’s give it a try and connect it.
Btw did you experience connection problems with 4.7? I did lose with some radio stations and Tidal the network from time to time…this is completely gone with 4.9.
You should have done the 4.8 update - that resolved Tidal and some iRadio issues.
