I successfully updated two MuSo Gen 1s, a UnitiQute and a NAC N-272. All worked immediately. Well done Naim. However, a few tips to the premature tinkerers in the Naim community (me included):
The MuSos took a long time to download the new radio station list. This happened for me because even after deleting the old presets, there was an “old” preset still loaded that was seeking its target. After pressing “stop stream” the new stations downloaded.
The NAC N-272 went haywire and kept stalling when trying to play Tidal tracks. This was was solved when the Naim app updated to ver. 7.3
As ever with Naim, patience is a must. Over the years I have learned not to tinker too soon and accept that most of my problems in the past were related to my network (e.g. a rogue BT hub that didn’t comply with an international standard for something very technical and nerdy) or external sources (such as vTuner). HiFi this good doesn’t make allowances for others’ compromises or incompetence.
Hello Franta2. I can play DSD files stored in DSF format on my NAC N-272 and UnitiAtom HE. Not my Musos or UnitiQute. I have the DSF files on a 2TB SSD attached to a USB port on my UnitiAtom set to server mode. I can access them via the Server input on my NAC N-272 and directly on the USB input on my Atom. These devices only support DSD 2.8224MHz (64) and 5.6MHz (128) but not 11.2Mhz (256).
I have an old UnitiServe, which does not support DSD, so I use the Atom as a server, for which it is designed.
Hi, rg, DSD files in DSF format are OK for playing, but DFF not! With 4.8 I could play it without problem… My NDX plays only DSD64, I am happy with the SQ and don´t want to add myself to new Naim´s price strategy. When I look at new price list, I don ´t know if I choose Naim again…
OK. I guess my older devises will have limitations … and Naim will have to revise their 4.9, which they had to rush out. I understand there is software which converts DFF to DSF. Yes, Naim is expensive kit!
Here’s one. I haven’t used it but it seems there are options to make lossless conversions. You’ll also have better metadata support. I use software to convert my DSF files to a second Flac version so I have the choice to play on my legacy devices and in multi-room mode.
Have just updated my Mu-So 1st Gen, it got stuck downloading and I had to turn off and restart and it did take a while, afterwards firmware was showing correct version as was the App, but I had to do a ‘add new item’ reset to get it going, what I found confusing is that on the App ‘sources’ icon is still showing as iRadio. Well done Naim, if only SONOS were as honest, efficient and effective when they have problems!
Well, not everybody’s happy, or not everybody’s using the same features, at least on the 272 .
I have mentioned before the issue that 4.8 has when playing files via UPnP, and since 4.9 is based on 4.8, I am getting the same issues: it simply freezes when I am switching between files (too fast) or moving forward or backward in a song. The app becomes unresponsive, I close it and open it again and get the message that there’s another app connected and I need to close that first. The only way to get out of it is a hard restart of the machine.
I am quite frustrated about this, I can’t go back to 4.7 because the IR doesn’t work anymore, and I can’t stay on 4.9 because of the freezes I get on UPnP . There’s definitely a bug that was introduced with 4.8, I don’t want (and can’t) buy a different device just because of that.
Just updated my ND5 XS, no issues at all, had to use a Mac with USB-A/B ports built in to connect the USB-A/B to micro USB-A cable, it wouldn’t work with a MacBook Pro with only USB_C, through a USB_C - USB-A/B Aadapter.
Just going through and deleting my old radio presets and finding them on the new system, which is so much better.
Naim, you get lots of grief on these forums, but most of us thank you and appreciate your team and wonderful products.
I’m sitting with my NAC N-272 and I can’t set up the serial port to use. It’s just impossible because the ‘Select serial port to use’ window doesn’t work. I see the port location on my PC, so I think all connections are okay. Any suggestions?
I found the reason. I missed installing the USB A to Mini-USB B cable driver: http://www.silabs.com/Support%20Documents/Software/CP210x_VCP_Windows.zip.
Hi. I have just Updated my older muso mark 1 via the app and it is working perfectly again. Old radio links deleted and new ones stored. Just be patient in the time it takes to load the new channels. Thanks
Dear all, I did the FW update un NAC272, ND5XS, MuSo1st gen all is fine on this devices. Now I tied to update the UnityQute 1st gen. Update was successful. UPnp, is working. But iRadio does not work. I already did a reset, cleared the presets. the display shows “No presets”. The device tries to connect to “Naim radio”. “Connecting”, after a while it displays “Press play to connect”…
Go into settings on the unitiqute itself (not the app), using the remote control. Find what it says for “bc sw” and reply here. I think it’s a 2D card.
You say it’s a first gen, this will confirm it, but I suspect already it does not support the new Naim iradio service.
