Owned an NDX now for about six years and after being without radio for too long since vtuner went down,I took it down to my local dealer to get the firmware updated to 4.9
After getting used to the obvious change in presentation-more “hifi”for want of a better term with more emphasis on the upper mids and highs and a less warm midrange,I am truly astonished to find that since the update over two months ago I haven’t once had to turn the Ndx off to reboot it.
Prior to the 4.9 update a day without having to reboot was a rare occurrence and a day where numerous reboots ie switching the unit off was needed was common.
Nothing was changed in my setup or network and apparently the update was solely to enable first gen streamers to access the new radio platform.
Still not sure if I like the new slightly different sound signature that these updates seem to bring but absolutely loving the new stability this one seems to bring in that I haven’t had to reboot once since being installed
What next? 5.0 that does hi res quobuz?
Joking aside 4.9 for me has been a massive bonus so far, fingers crossed!
Has anyone else noticed this no reboot required effect or it it just me?
Hi @Pmc64, welcome to the forum, nice place and people.
I’ve had an NDX since 2014 and haven’t needed to reboot it once during normal use.
OK it had a reboot when requested during beta testing, but never in normal operation.
My NDX also dates back to 2014. Frequent reboots are rare.
Maybe once every 3 months it gets into a state where it will only play the first track in the queue. So maybe it needs a reboot 3-4 times in an entire year. As my web radio listening is all in other rooms, I haven’t bothered with the latest update. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it and all that.
Hi @pmc64, what problems did you have with the ndx that required a reboot?
I’ve got three legacy streamers and I never need to reboot them (all are on 4.9).
Our SuperUniti has been powered on for over a year.
Such frequent reboot required would indicate an environmental (network?) or product fault.
Hi everyone,
Thanks for all the replies.Been an avid reader of this forum now for quite a few years and have read of quite a few people having the same issues as me in that the app would tell me another device was connected-can’t remember now it’s been so long since I have had to reboot!
Anyway after having read your replies it obviously wasn’t such a common issue as I thought it was-I had just got used to it being like that and lived with it.
All good now though and thanks again for your replies.
I have seen this the app stating that another app is connected while it is still only one app trying to control the device in my case a qb first generation. I cannot remember maybe I do not know what causes this, but most likely something with a beta. However when this happens a restart of the streamer seems to be the fastest way to get back to normal.
On my qb it h has from time to time a tendency to give up with better quality radio streams but a short removal of power solves the problem.
This happens on and off but not every day.
I get this issue if I forget to close the Naim app on my phone and then use my iPad to change inputs. It is not a problem with Roon.
Our 272 used to lose it’s connection and become unresponsive perhaps once a week, sometimes more often.
I suspect there was an issue with the Tidal integration, as I could more often than not recreate the issue when pausing and restarting Tidal content. Since inserting a switch and with the update to 4.9 it’s only happened once. I suspect the issue might be related to network/network mgmt and whether you use Tidal or other streaming services.
First generation streamers can only work with one app controlling the device. Anoying until you find out that is a known limitation.
