Is it time to consider Better Chord Speaker Cable?

Mine too. :+1:

There is no better sounding cable per se, just what sounds best to one person and system at one time.

Have you considered that you might be overthinking this? Is there actually anything wrong with your speaker cables? I’ll repeat (sorry) what I’ve probably suggested before; Kudos KS1. I’m sure a U.K. dealer such as Signals would send some to you. It’s really thin, really bendy, comes in black or white, and really is very good.

Try Chord music speaker cable

Chord Clearway is a thin conductor (tiny gauge) speaker cable but with better insulation than previous models. I would personally not recommend it for your setup. I would not recommend Shawline too, for a similar reason and their slightly shrieky character.

The Kudos KS-1 is a decent cable which is very similar to the old Chord Odyssey models, however if considered, I would not go for KS1 but instead for the new Chord Odyssey X which is not expensive, larger conductor and I think also has their new better XLPE insulation.

In your case, going in the middle with Epic X with larger conductors than Clearway and same as Odyssey and with upgraded insulation in the direction to Signature may be the way to go? It combines good transparency and detail, noise reduction and overall performance.

Signature combines the best bits of the above elements but I understand you may need longer lengths which may make it prohibitive?

To give you an idea of the importance of insulation and materials, as far as I know the Sarum above Signature actually has thinner conductors with slightly better insulation and Music has same gauge as Signature but their best insulation and noise management materials for micro detail, transparency and flow.

I personally have Music for my main setup and Epic X for my office.

I’ve always thought Odyssey and KS-1 is the same cable but just rebranded by Kudos. Is there really a difference?

Then it’s just a matter of borrowing different Chord cables from your dealer and trying them at home and buying the ones you like best, right? If he doesn’t have the lengths you need, you simply have to rearrange the system temporarily, I did that when I tried cables at home, a bit of work but well worth the effort IMO.

Hi … how you find the chord music ?

They are not identical. Both use (possibly identical) silver plated wire, but the insulation on KS1is different.

My Dealer told me the music uses military technology

I guess it’s one where I feel the model name is justified:)

In terms of SQ impact on system among other interconnects, I consider it my most important cable and “accessory” alongside my mains block.

As for military stuff, don’t know, may be just what they could come up with for their ultimate model at present. They do have a lot of screening in the design, and not sure if these in the photo are some of their ARAYs or more ordinary ferrite clamps..

@garcon Thank You. I am leaning toward Epic X. Anything above that in Chord would be prohibitively expensive due to the length needed.

There are many companies claiming space, nasa , military whatever technology. Most often it’s just marketing. Like Chord, they just use a different cool name for what in reality is Teflon.

Epic X is excellent and in my experience significantly better sounding than the old Epic models.

I was a bit unsure as I needed longer 5m lengths and could not justify the Signatures there but very happy with the decision.

Teflon is also used in nordost … yup

If the Epic X is significantly better than old Epic Twin as @garcon has claimed, presumably closer to the Signature XL’s performance, perhaps give it a shot.

I’ve owned the Chord Epic and NAC A5 before, both at the same time for several years. Although they sounded different, the difference is not night and day to me. In other words they sound almost the same. I now have the Chord Signature XL and this cable sounds noticeably different from the Epic/NAC A5. Better clarity and fine detail, less coloured from top to bottom with an overall cleaner sound.

In summary, if the Epic X or XL sounds close to Signature XL at a lower cost, it might be worthwhile to consider it as an option. The Signature XL 4m pair I currently have in the system is at the upper limit I’m willing to spend for speaker cables. Sometimes I think about the Sarum T or even Music but backed off after looking at the prices.

Absolutely, first rule of hifi leave it alone!

The Signature is clearly better and was my initial suggestion to the OP in view of the system level. For me it was too much cost at the lengths required and also because my speakers in the office are small and I thought less so much dependent on bass delivery (and need).

May be both Odyssey and Epic X could be a good option with the latter providing better coherence, detail, soundstage etc?
Signature gives you more of that and better lower end performance.
