Hi there, my first post here after a long time on the sidelines.
I have read the Audirvana threads, and only an old one touches on this, but that’s for the old version.
I recently upgraded to Audirvana Origin after years with their original platform, as the old one was getting clunky, and I rarely found the Atom linked via ethernet.
The issue I’m having with Audirvana Origin stops playing albums and playlists for no apparent reason. This can be after 10 minutes or an hour plus of continuous play.
I’m running Audirvana on a Mac Mini, which I also work on, and my music is stored on a NAS drive UPNP linked to the Atom.
I’m not hugely tech-savvy, but is there something in my settings that could be causing this? I’ve reached out to Audirvana, and they’ve been helpful to a point but haven’t resolved the issue.
I didn’t have this issue on the old version of Audirvana, so hopefully is set up issue. My music files on the NAS drive are all ripped CDs Apple Lossless.
If any of you have had the same issue and have resolved it, I’d love to know how!
I run Audirvāna studio (same as origin but adds streaming) on a Mac mini and my local files on a NAS. My Mac mini is completely dedicated to Audirvāna.
Can you tell us about your Mac mini - age, CPU, RAM?
Can you tell us about your network setup, wired, Wi-Fi, etc…
Are you using the most up to date OS and and iOS versions and app version?
I suspect that you are having network issues….
Hi Brendan, thank you for reaching out. Your set-up does sound remarkably similar.
My Mac Mini is approx 3 years old; 2.6 GHz Quad-Core, 16 GB RAM and running OS Sequoia 15.2. The NAS passes through an Airport extreme to the Naim via Ethernet.
I am using my Mac Mini to work on, so do run some heavy creative software, but I find it strange that it wasn’t something that happened using the older version of Audirvāna.
I’m running the current versions of all the software and no issues.
The older 3.5 Audirvāna is something I had on another Mac in my office and I agree it was getting problematic with more recent versions of OSX.
Could you temporarily put the NAS onto Ethernet either at your desk, or on the router? The Airport is now very old wi fi tech and maybe it’s playing up? I had one that failed last year. Taking the effort to get everything wired has certainly improved my system reliability enormously.
Your Mac should be OK, but do you have access to another one you could swap in to test?
Finally is your NAS checking out OK? No bad sectors etc.
Hi Brendan, thank you.
The NAS sits under my desk, this is my office set-up where I inevitably spend most of my time and do most of my listening.
I use the Airport as a pass-through as it has multiple ethernet ports, plus it keeps archived work to hand.
I currently have the router connected directly the Airport. This then feeds the Mac Mini, the NAS and the Naim. What would you suggest as a better order for connection? Could an ethernet switch possibly help? I’m all ears!
For those who may stumble on this issue in the future, I am glad to say it’s now resolved. I upgraded my ethernet switch and ethernet cables to the highest speed versions available and it’s all running well.
Strange how the old cables and switch had no issues on the earlier version of Audirvana, but there you go.
Curiously the happened to me yesterday, never having occurred before. I’m still using the old Audirvana as I have not yet changed to Origin. In my case it is set up on Mac Mini fully optimised for playback direct to DAC via USB, no UPnP serving across network. Most annoying. At first I thought it might be a corrupted file, but same happened with a different album. Although I don’t normally need to reboot the MM, I tried the that as the standard computer problem solution - and that cleared it, normal service restored.
You say your issue, which was with Origin, cleared after changing ethernet switch and cables, using higher speed capable cables, though network audio streaming is hardly taxing in terms of data speed. Did you try rebooting the Mac Mini before the network changes?
Hi there, yes, I did try rebooting etc., I moved where the drive was in my set up and all the other steps that Audirvana suggested. I also deleted my library and relinked it for good measure.
I agree, you wouldn’t have thought the ethernet switch of cables could cause an issue, but somehow that’s what solved the problem for me.
Have you not found that the Atom doesn’t appear in your menu for output on the old Audirvana?
That’s what led me to upgrade in the first place.
