I was sad to read on Organissimo that Brian Kellock has died. Only 63 years old. A wonderful British pianist. I never heard him play live.

They recommended this fine recording with his old friend Tommy Smith as a fitting memorial.

Sad news - pretty sure that I saw him one time, might have been Bath Festival but can’t remember who with (addendum - according to the Guardian site it was with John Rae’s ‘Celtic Feet’ back in 2004 as part of a Scots/Hungarian collaboration.Those were the days..)

I will give this a listen again, but I cannot seem to click with Halvorson’s music. This seem a little more interesting than her previous records.

Charles Mingus and Teo Macero were creatively brilliant together an exceptional line up too Horace Parlan, John Handy, Booker Ervin and Shafi Hadi
