@jazzman22 I tried and gave it a listen. Did you like the album? I was a little less impressed
I’ve only dipped my toe so far but I’m a committed Dave Holland fan and I’ve enjoyed what I’ve heard so far. Arguably one of the UK’s greatest (ever) jazz musicians.
Dave
Harry does have a formidable ability with ballads and like Pres I bet he knows the song words.
Martin has a fine open style and draws upon many of his obvious favourites to flesh it out. T’other two could have a lighter touch.
I read they snuck this quartet into Ronnie Scott’s.
On Spotify
A fine British team including the Rev Spike whose website, now seemingly paused, has wonderful insights into some of his favourite records.
Seen these two battling away at Swanage a few times I think. First time was with the wonderful Peter King (RIP).
Blimey a truly listenable version of Tony Williams Lifetime Emergency! Has to be heard
Here it is on the Thingamajig label

Yep - saw that yesterday. Totally disagree with their review of the Dave Newton Trio - to me it was one of the best performances. They were right about much of the rest though - Benet McLean, Soft Machine, Rory Ingham and especially ‘Alan Barnes + 11’. Can’t say that I was over-struck by the 3D Trio though, although their performance was very engaging.
That sounds like a ‘must hear, must get’. Not a particular fan of Tony’s vocals though.
Richard W’s comments about Tony W’s attitude in the blog are intetesting. I had a similar experience in my one brief interaction with him in person.
It is best never to meet your heroes.
Most Jazz musicians I have encountered have been friendly and charming. The exception was a very brief encounter with Ornette Coleman.
