Exactly, laugh at my misfortune, if you need to. However, I wouldn’t think anyone is so wise it couldn’t have happened to them. Who really sees around all the corners in life anyways?
I’m wise enough to know that if one channel of my amp just fried a speaker I’m not going to immediately give it a chance to repeat the action with the other speaker. Still, I guess it’s what’s called a (quite expensive) learning curve. And I take no pleasure from your misfortune, just hope @lozjones gives me that pleasure soon. Karma.
Fair enough and it was a learning curve with near infinite slope, because as I turned it on, I knew in that moment how I had f’d up. 
If it brung you happiness and joy ask your wife what happened. They seem to know why you don’t have one now.

Congrats, you finally see the whole divine comedy, but you still don’t get it.
I confess I don’t get any of it. If my rig went up in smoke I wouldn’t find it remotely amusing and I would want to at least try to determine what had caused it in order to hopefully prevent it happening again. Not that I’m materialistic and there are far more important things to me than the hi-fi, but it would mean that a very substantial amount of money had been wasted when it could have been put to other good use. It’s good I suppose that you seem able to shrug it off so dismissively though. You’re obviously made of sterner stuff than me.

C’mon folks, my first comment in this thread was genuine and an explanation about how GFCIs actually work. My second comment was an irreverent reaction to to the way EricR seems to have accepted what happened, acknowledged his mistake, and shown character by sharing it - ie. with a sigh and good humour, by reference to the divine comedy I think he gets it.
Incidentally, karma requires intent, I don’t intend for people to blow their kit up or trip over, but they still do, whereas saying that you “hope” misfortune befalls someone displays not only intent, but also malice.
So just for those who have “hoped” that something bad happens to me, here is a photo for you, and my HOPE is that the only misfortune to come your way is by disappointing you when I tell you that it’s not mine, it belongs to an elderly tenant who isn’t doing well, so I am fixing it for her for free - not because I have to, just because I can.
Anyway, I guess I’ll wrap my input up by saying - “sanctimonious much anyone?”
