Just Got a Naim Nova

Thanks for your comments… I’m not expecting a significant improvement in performance and I’ll report back as soon as I can.

Here’s a somewhat ‘initial’ update on my purchase of a Powerline.

I received it just an hour ago and fitted the cable according the instructions, switched the Nova on, CD player too and then prepared some food for our lovely pooch, integrated a new smart bulb into the lounge. All this took me around twenty five minutes to let the gear warm up a bit. Next, loaded the first cd I came across, 'Electronic" self titled album, the one with, 'getting away with it". Mmm already I’m liking the better grip, the bass is even more tuneful and Bernard Sumner’s vocal is clearer in the mix and the chorus with the Pet Shop Boys, Neil Tennant’s backing vocal is more prominent now. In fact there’s more of everything on the table here and I’m hungry for more this. This album is quite bright sounding and still is a bit, but now it’s a lot more ‘sweeter’ now and more convincing. I got few 80’s & 90’s cd’s out of the vaults recently to see how they sounded after all these years on more modern gear and I was pleasantly suprised with some of the discs I played.

I can’t believe a mains cable can improve the sound so much as this baby does. I wasn’t expecting this much improvement, but I was wrong. It is quite significant and even SHMBO noticed too. Mind you, having spent a few hundred quid on a cable she was entitled to sit down between the speakers and have a listen.

I’m watching my beloved Liverpool later tonight and then it’s back to the music, this time playing some records. Can’t wait, and I’ll report back soon.

Might get another for my new CDP (Marantz SA-12se)

Happy for you. I remember my first nova + powerline experience with fondness
