Superline is not servicable anymore.
Really ? Didn’t know that
See my seperate moan thread for the sad story.
Looking online it appears that dealers are still selling the Superline. It seems highly dubious to be selling something that can no longer be serviced.
Yep agree HH - Naim can service 99% of their gear so seems very weird can’t do the Superline
Having one , I’ll be checking out that out with my dealer
I don’t believe there is anything non serviceable in a SL. I’m not saying it isn’t true that they won’t service it but is seems really odd.
Whilst that’s been the case for decades, I have a bad feeling that % is starting to lower the past few years…
A lot of the CD mechs are unavailable, rendering a good bulk of Naim’s CDPs paper weights if the mech fails…
I think I read (happy to be corrected) that if the HDD in a HDX fails then again there’s no replacement and cannot be fixed (this I do find strange as to why a suitable modern replacement cannot be used and things tweaked within the HDX), again consigning the whole unit to the electronic scrap pile…
I’m not sure what the exact score is re a lot of the AV gear, but it can’t be a great expectation – again, I thought I’d picked up that certain parts within the AV2 would mean a dead box if they fail (the thought of which unnerves me as I have a practically mint AV2 and DVD5 combo in storage, due to numerous international moves, and would ideally still like to press into service again at some point, but….)
I believe green screens for some of the gen1 streamer/Uniti stuff are becoming irreplaceable at Naim, leaving owners to source replacements themselves….
It goes on….
I do very much appreciate some of this is out of Naim’s direct control and somewhat a sign of modern obsolescence, but I fear Naim’s deserved reputation re servicing is perhaps slipping into the ‘norm’ of modern electronic manufacturing, unfortunately….

Right, they can be repaired but not serviced. As it’s unpowered that shouldn’t really be an issue then. Thanks.
Without turning this thread into my tearfull affair from early sept, RDs first line says it all. by design…
I.e. the PCB ground plane ( yes i had to look it up) does not allow easy desoldering of components. Musical Fidelity were good at this in the late 90s too.
So the design of the PCB does not allow easy service. Actually nigh impossible. The one person not to comment has been Naim Head Honcho Steve Sells. Noticeable from his silence on his design.
Having considered all the above I think I’ll keep and service the 72/1140 and HiCap. And try and find a nait 2 that I can use while they are away and then use in a second system.
Not sure I follow this. It’s not unpowered; it requires a power supply. It’s not different in that respect from something like almost any Naim preamp. What this means is that you won’t be able to account for the usual service interval that is meant to keep it in spec, but rather wait for failure or some other major defect.
What I meant is that it doesn’t have a toroidal or loads of big capacitors, so recapping etc is less of an issue.
That means it would follow the standard service interval of 15 years for such items, like preamps.
I’m curious. Are those product’s PCBs more prone to lifted traces than say a 252 or nDAC?
Sorry, don’t know, just re-posting Richard’s post.
DG…
Yes sorry. I wasn’t asking you specifically so much as thinking out loud.
Looked but I can’t figure out how to do that.
