There was a thread on the RP3 RS earlier that closed before anyone (I think) had a chance to get their hands on one and review. Now that’s it’s a few months on, anyone have experience / thoughts on it?
I’m selfishly asking as I have a brand-new unopened RP3 box in the listening room. It was delivered one day before the RP3 RS was announced. What was supposed to be a simple send-back-and-exchange is now 4 months into waiting for the dealer to come up with the latest and greatest RP3 RS.
I’m getting slightly impatient, but really wondering - is the new RP3 RS worth waiting and waiting for??
My RP3 has an ND5 fitted and the uplift is only €100 here, so the difference is the motor and the plinth. But the waiting is just
I’d be better off if I just flew across the channel for the WE, saw some friends, bought a few records on Berwick St., closed down some pubs, and stuffed an RP3 RS in my hand luggage back to Deutschland
Yes I have an RS and it’s really nice. Now set up in my second system and already getting well used on days while wfh🙂
Can’t compare with regular R3 as I haven’t compared directly with anything else.
I did buy a Planar 3 in about 1989 but traded it for my current TT over twenty years ago. I think they’ve all come on since then!
It feels very familiar in many ways of course but at the same time, clearly a different beast from the original. Less ‘flimsy’, better cartridge, separate PSU. But still can’t clean a revolving record without it coming to a stop almost though😎 And I can till pick it up in one hand!! Apart from that it really delivers.
I was just going to get a P1 or 2 as it’s ‘only’ my second system and a Rega suited by nature of it’s grounding as it’s a distance from the nait 50’s phono stage. However, when I saw and then read about the RS, I figured it’s going to be busy and have a long life, get the one I’ll probably wish I had.
I got mine from Analogue seduction who are not far from me and nice to deal with. They tell me they are very popular and literally get picked up by customers the day they come in. Apparently the lady on the desk at Rega is getting a bit cross with all the dealers calling and asking where their order is
that makes complete sense - what I’m really saying is that I think I’ll have FOMO if I keep the P3. It’s been such a long time that I also don’t think I’ll pick up the difference in SQ, but will simply go mad knowing that there’s a slightly better version out there for a small upgrade in price.
But your point on the dealer moving them same-day and the Rega staff getting tons of calls on order status is even more helpful - I think I’ve been waiting for over 3/4 months to get a hold of one on the continent. My dealer here in DE keeps pushing the availability date later and later every week. Makes sense that Rega is probably trying to satisfy demand in the UK first.
I have no idea if they prioritise like that.
But its quite amazing another new edition Rega P3 can create such a high demand.
Nice that Rega are busy.
Like the market is never full.
