Kerr Acoustic speakers-new UK brand

I have recently come across reviews of the K300 Mk3 Speakers by Cambridge UK firm Kerr Acoustics. The recent review by The British Audiophile is very positive. The firm uses TL design. Other reviews are good. They are not cheap, but I am tempted. I’d be running them with my Naim Nova. Has anyone here encountered these speakers/this brand, and be able to report their view?

Always good to hear of a new brand I do wish there was some sort of magical way to demo speakers online as there are so many brands I’d love to compare if the practicalities of getting to hear them weren’t an issue. I know lots of people rate the Proac ribbon tweeter speakers I personally didn’t get on with the Proac sound overall so I’d love to try ribbon tweeters with a different brand.

I think they have been around for a few years now. A search for Kerr with find quite a few threads, and at least one Forum member owns a pair.

Not new. I’ve mentioned them before in posts about transmission line speakers. “Sound” interesting in writing, but I’ve never had an opportunity to hear.

Some people think there is, called YouTube - but limited by the recording microphone anx whatever you’re playing back through, not to mention any processing, lossy compression, etc., it may have gone through.

Kerr have had a set up at Bristol hifi show for a few years running and it always sounded one of the best to my ears, I’d love to try a pair of their standmounts with my Naim kit but not needing to change speakers yet.

They just look like copies of PMC speakers, but with a ribbon tweeter.

I heard Kerr speakers at the Northwest Audio show coupled with the new Chord Electronics integrated amp, Hugo TT2 and M scaler. IMHO this was the best sounding system at the show!! It has been causing me a hifi itch for a few months now which at some point will need further investigation

I recently listened to the K320’s on the end of a Grimm Mu2 streamer/pre and Quiescent power amp. Well integrated and very open and sweet I thought. Most speakers don’t convince me as well as these did. I’m a fan of transmission line designs if done well. My Shahinians use a version of it. Ultimately, I thought the bass wasn’t quite right for me. Impressive and substantial on obvious low notes, but not always sufficiently present in support of higher register instruments like woodwinds. That may say more about me and my particular/peculiar tastes than the speakers. I’d recommend a listen and decide for yourself.

Hardly surprising as they are TL designs. You could say PMC speakers look like copies of TDL, which looked like copies of IMF…

They are fresh new brand, I ve never auditioned the speakers. I’m sure they are good but it will difficult to get feedback because they are out of the traditional naimers landscape. The only value that I can add is a suggestion: audition the Ophidian, they are really top I ve been deeply impressed and the naim partnering was an honeymoon

Well as stated above they are not a new speaker manufacturer, though I think they are a young business: I first heard of them maybe five or six years ago. But I suppose it depends what is your understanding of “fresh and new”.

Looking at their website, their first News Blog is dated 10/09/17, so been going a while as others have mentioned.

DG…

To me fresh new is a non traditional naimers brand, it doesn’t mean born less than 2 years ago

I heard them ( at least I think it was those Kerr Acoustic speakers ) at the NW Audio show and I thought they were very , very good.

Also has the opportunity to speak with Jess Kerr ( the owner and designer) and as you can imagine he was very knowledgeable and passionate about the speakers.

I asked him about synergy with Naim and he said he often demoed them with Naim amps.

For the same impact at substantially lower cost have a look at AlChris Audio….
I’ll be going for TX1s for my home office soon…
I have TX 9 in my main system…

I suspect hardly jn the same league: Kerr make transmission line speakers

So do Alchris Audio, this from their website regarding the TX-1

The TX-1 is a bookshelf/ stand mount speaker utilizing quarter wave transmission line technology to enhance the bass frequencies.

£1250. Which seems very reasonable vs £6300.

The mid/bass drivers look like Peerless, vs the Scanspeaks in the Kerrs. No idea of crossover or cabinet differences, but the Alchris cabinets look pretty tidy to me. Depending on budget, or even irrespective of it, I think they’d be worth a listen vs Kerr, or PMC equivalent TL models. There are also a few posts on here briefly mentioning the history & pedigree of Alchris

Even if the exteriors were identical, the internals of the cabinets would be completely different, even if the exteriors are identical - and the construction of that, and the design work involved, is where the money goes, and what improves bottom end.
