It has arrived.
DG…
Or is it a line level passive crossover?
And please let us know what you think of it so far, DG?
It’s passive in that it has no mains power, but active in the sense that it puts the crossover between preamp and power amp, as the Naim active biamp setups used to do.
Only by the loosest definition of ‘active’… and aren’t snaxo powered?
I cannot use one, but did hear one at a demo and the difference from passive to active was noticeably better.
A good improvement, plus only one box instead of two.
DG…
Yes, they are
DG…
Unpowered active XO…this statement makes no sense whatsoever.
it’s a thought, my system is 300DR into Kudos T505, so could look at 2 x 250.3 into Siago active, great work from Kudos, had demo with @Cymbiosis
look forward to hearing your views - thoughts
Tempted. But I’d also need another 300dr+ps, so that’s 3 more boxes, and another fraim…
Not likely to happen before summer for sure.
Maybe the engineers at Kudos have better things to do than proof read the marketing…
Yes, SNAXOs are mains powered using a Hicap or similar. The Kudos version isn’t.
If it has no power supply then *by definition * it is certainly not an active crossover. It is a *passive * crossover, but works at line level rather than the usual passive crossover found inside a loudspeaker, which works at power amp output level. By working with a line level signal, the components are handling much lower voltages and currents, so can (theoretically at least) be of higher quality and be more precise.
I’m thinking that this is a miscommunication, who knows if it is also deliberate. Unpowered cannot be active.
Hopefully I can add a little clarity without annoying Richard…
Sigao Drive represents a ground-breaking new approach to crossover design, never before seen in mainstream HiFi. Neither traditionally active nor truly passive – Sigao Drive is an external crossover with no power supply, situated in front of the power amplifier in the audio signal chain.

…and I think that’s what many of us translate their statement as meaning. As it stands, their statement is at least deceiving, but possibly also a deception.
My dealer had one when I visited the UK over new years. And although they had the 808s on the end of a Naim system, they didn’t have enough power amps or the right cables yet to hook it up sadly.
Apparently it skims off the bias current in the signal to power itself.
I’m not sure I fully got on with the Kudos sound though.
What is bias current in the signal?
Am I right that someone from Naim was involved in this?
Thanks
Martin
Yes, apparently Roy George (now retired) was involved in the development.
