Life after core

Uniti core is gone. Definitely local files have the edge on streaming services. What’s next from naim?

The core is gone due to parts availability. Whether we will see the reintroduction of a new platform is anyone’s guess. Mostly it’s a mini itx based computer with a Teac CD-ROM drive and decent power supply.
Would it be on naim’s product roadmap when the competition is pretty healthy; innuos, melco etc I’m not convinced it’s worth the investment.

Robert I think that naim lps is a key success factor here, especially if they are going to implement lvs on Ethernet and spdif connection.
On top of it naim support in Italy is top notch

The move to internet streaming has taken a chunk of the home/local streaming market so the market for Core type servers has reduced and I suspect Naim don’t foresee a market size worth the investment.
I prefer ripping CD’s with a with a separate DVD drive uploading to a UPnP/DLNA server such as Synology or QNAP NAS. Or if you really want an intergal ripper & storage unit, Innuos Zen or Zenith seem to be the favourites.

I heard from Innuos that they also have a limited number of Teac drives in stock because Teac stopped production. Innuos is thinking of something new in Q3 or Q4.

Don’t the other Uniti boxes/Naim streamers support external hard drives? My current solution is to rip CD’s using Fre:ac on my laptop and transfer to my HDD which is connected to my streaming device.

They do, but the functionality is somewhat limited, even compared to the Core. Sound quality is good though. Certainly a good solution for some.
