That’s okay, no need to change what I wrote. It is a common misconception that the Tranquility lifts the platter.
Well is it not the case that magnetic levitation is creating a lifting force but not sufficient to break contact with the thrust pad?
Karousel on order

To give people some idea of the effect of the tranquility reducing down force and hence friction
On my (previous owned) LP 12 a flick of the platter without the fitted belt made it spin for between 30 and 40 seconds
With the tranquility fitted and well set up but otherwise no changes to the above, a similar flick of the platter made it spin for 3 minutes plus
I remember it being quite a shock as well!

Me too.
Was at my lovely dealer today, we talked about the Karousel. Ordered - I really can’t see this being a fiendish Linn stitch-up. Only 3 bearing upgrades in how many years? Why would I not?
I’ve spent more on buying different whiskey over those same years ![]()
…Hic…
I find music and my system always sounds better with a decent intoxicant!
Many vintage whiskeys cost more than the cost of a Karousel

Yes, I meant it is a common misconception that the Tranquility lifts the bearing shaft clear of the thrust pad.
I am wary of going anywhere near the Linn after a few…my old Asaka seemed bulletproof but man, those exposed cantilevers on the Krystal and Kandid still give me the willies…
I know, I sent my last Dynevector to the graveyard on a particularly lively Saturday night!
Incidentally, only last week I was considering shifting up from my current 17D3 to the DX when those fiendish Tiefunbruns sabotage proceedings with this damn blasted new bearing!

Actually, after sinking a few, I always try cuing a record to see if I’m still ok to drive!

Linn used to (occasionally) offer a new item, with a savings on additional item when introducing a new product. I bailed on switching up from lingo 2 to 4. If they “discounted” a secondary purchase, I’d reconsider it, however - the weak link is probably the prefix at this point.
David was ‘fixing’ my LP12 Urika today and mentioned the event. I will be at the 1pm session. Seems like a no brainer upgrade.
I await reports! I’d love to be at SO on that day.
So what gloss finishes are available and does this mean a new plinth or a respray job?
I quite like the idea of a piano black gloss plinth to match my speakers but not sure I am willing to pay so much for one and I definitely would not want a monogrammed one!

An observation in that not everyone thought that “the sound quality improves!” with the TPT.

I read on one well-known dealers website that Karousel is free with an otherwise purchase of £3000.00 (inc VAT) at a single time of Linn items. I don’t know if this is Linn’s deal, or theirs, however.
The Linn website says-
Whether it’s the colour of your favourite shirt or a shade from your best-loved album, we can match any colour you like for the perfect personalised plinth finish.
But for how much?
I think its linns as im sure a dealer said they have to fill out a form/paperwork for linn.
limited time available though
