Yes it’s does. It uses Airable and it works well. You can also store Radio stations as Pins (Presets).

I would add good BP control to that list as well!

Yes, as a GP - having your NHS health check and BP and cholesterol checks very important. Also bowel screening and PSA testing, and if a smoker or any industrial/occupational exposure to smoke/pollution/dust - lung scan. + breast screening in women. I have lost so many colleagues to breast cancer.

Sounds really good and glad that you got a good offer and are now enjoying it.

My change was somewhat similar. I had the Linn DS/3 Katalyst and Dynamik with a Naim active system.

Linn were offering a free Utopia upgrade if you got the Organik DAC at the time and this is what I had planned to do. Went up to Cymbiosis to demo mine against the upgraded version. It did sound much better, so I was going to upgrade it, then Phil said have you heard the Selekt. To be honest I didn’t even know about the Selekt , so he put it on and, wow, even better.

But here’s the big but, the Organik / Utopik upgrade was £5300 at the time which I had budgeted for, but the Selekt was over £9000, just too much.

We had a chat and he said to come back and listen to the Selekt as active into their Kudos Titan 606 loudspeakers.

We went back and had the demo of the single box and it did sound excellent, but in the active configuration it was over £18000, serious money. But also looked good as well with the simpler presentation.

Phil said that would put some figures together on part exchanging my existing system for the Selekt, they knew the history as the vast majority was got from there.

He came with the costs and, basically took all my existing kit against the Linn Selekt, so no money, as such, changed hands. This included both Phil and Wayne coming down to take the old kit and the Phil setting it all up with SO.

Still extremely pleased with it and glad we made the change.

Now enjoying our Jazz.

It may be a silly question, but can someone please explain what the dual mono out option means? Do you then need two amps to drive it?

@DiggyGun has active set up for his Kudos speakers. That’s why he has chosen those amp modules.

Something you could do in your system also with your speakers.

Anyway, I will let the man explain it for himself…

Thanks. I thought there were two options though - dual mono out and also with dual amp cartridges?

Ps. I’m not buying one, just keen to understand it all :+1:

Is it possible to spec a Linn box with just digital out as a transport?

No DAC, no amps etc.

You can configure the Selekt with internal power amps (as @DiggyGun has) or with just line-level outputs for use with external power amps or active speakers. With Organik DAC, you can specify a stereo DAC or, at extra cost, a mono DAC with line-level output, one for each channel. That’s what I have in mine and the line level outputs are used with active ATC speakers.

Ah ok, I understand now. So you would select the mono out dacs for either active speakers or if you go for the amp modules internally like Dan says. Makes sense now.

The Selekt has two coaxial S/PDIF inputs, one of which can be configured as an S/PDIF output so I can’t see why not. You should be able to just use a base Selekt unit without any extra cartridges being needed.

The DSM Selekt gives more versatility than the Klimax version which is more standard. With the Selekt you can run active with two amps, two mono DACs and won’t need any other boxes. KDSM looks like you need active speakers or a power amp(s).

Well, I think it’s a very clever system. Obviously I am a 500DR man and like things quite in your face.

But, and this is a big but, I reckon Linn have nailed it with what they are doing. One box for all that kit! Modular, upgradeable!

The mono is line out only and you need two for stereo. They also do a stereo line out. This will then connect to an external amp so you are using it as a source.

I have the stereo power amp cartridges x2 for active, but you could go one for passive. This way is a one box solution.

Took me a while to understand it all at the beginning.

Very clever. I had ‘One box to rule them all’ for about 10 years. A Devialet 250. With the Devialet once one bit gets obsolete of perhaps not pulling its weight you have to change everything. It was an expensive year…

It is quite confusing! I guess that is where dealers come in to help advise, which you would expect for something at this quality/price level.

@DiggyGun i am glad it worked out so very well for you. It illustrates the benefits of having a good rapport with your dealer. I am astounded how well the active amplifiers drive your 84db speakers. A very elegant and excellent result for you.
