Linn Sara or Linn Keilidh

Heared both of them at a dealer when buying new speakers 25 years ago. Instant no…
Sluggish, blurry and just horrible to my ears. Bought some ART Stilletos at that point (bit lacking in bass, but otherwise excellent).

I think it was brilliant that both Linn Sara and the LP12 used the same box.

I still have a set of Saras. They were good when powered by 135s, but needed a bit of volume. Not good for gentle quiet music at low volumes. So Bern12, crank up that 250 and enjoy! I wouldn’t bother with biamping. If you need quiet listening then you’ll need different speakers.

Just an update on my system,

I asked a few weeks ago about should I use 2 x Nap 250 with Linn Keilidh speakers or

1 x Nap 250 with Linn Sara.

System used was the recently serviced Nac 72, Hi-Cap & the Nap 250.

Front source was an LP12, Ittok, Karma and Lingo, CD Player is an Naim 3.5 & Flat cap.

I have used the system every day for 2 weeks and there is a massive improvement,

Darran at Class A has done an outstanding job.

Music Used for the Test

REM What’s your frequency Kenneth.

Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody.

Chemical Brothers Block Rockin Beats.

Tina Turner, Nutbush City Limits.

Madonna, Don’t cry for me Argentina.

The Linn Sara Test,

The Sara made a great impression, the top end was great for me,

The mid was detailed and the vocals sounded very easy to listen to,

the bass was solid and tight, probably the best bass I have heard from a bookshelf speaker.

Overall, the speakers delivered, and they worked for me.

The Linn Keilidh Test
The first thing I noticed they were softer and very nice at lower levels.

They are warm and yet detailed, it was a different sound to the Sara,
but very enjoyable and I could sit there for hours listening to them.
The highs were smoother than the Sara,
the mid-range were equal, and
the bass did not have the same impact as the Sara.

Overall
The amps drive both sets of speakers easily and they sound great.
Both speakers can deliver music very well.
The synergy between the Nap250 and the Sara is better,
The Sara speaker needs the power and control that the 250 delivers to perform at its best.

The Sara is staying in the main system.

The bass output of the Sara was the deciding factor.
Thank You everyone for your advice and help.

Kind Regards to everyone,

Bernard Woodburn

Back in the day I was in the Sara preferred to Isobarik DMS camp. One of the reasons was the Sara’s faster bass. I was told the technical reason was linked to the smaller Isobarik enclosure but I have simply forgotten the full specifics. But the Isobariks sounded somewhat slow compared to the Sara which when on song were a terrific speaker IMO. Enjoy!
