Linn Selekt Journey

Very interesting! I always have a mac mini hooked up my NG KDSM so that I can input streaming music from other sources. Now I can use my iPhone/iPad/Macbook to stream music via “Qobuz Connect” to my mac mini, which feeds bit-perfect stream to my Linn streamer up to USB 192/24.

The Qobuz App UI is terrific.

My reply from Linn

“I have spoken to the Software Team about your message and I have been advised that Qobuz Connect will be investigated, although at this stage it is unfortunately not possible to say if Qobuz Connect will or can be supported.”

So not holding my breath. Linn have a bit of a reputation for doing their own thing (early dropping of CD machines) and as mentioned earlier they are not fully into supporting “connect” type capabilities. Perhaps it is difficult to incorporate into their software architecture being as they have SO and “exakt” to cater for with potentially a limited software development team.

Although I don’t know how much I’d use Connect, I will contact them and urge adoption. I might also drop a mail to my dealer (House of Linn) and see if a bit of pressure can be applied that way.

I agree Linn do often go their own way, but they’re also in a competitive market and if non-adoption begins to cost sales I suspect they might move on this.

BTW I don’t think their rejection of MQA has a bearing on how they’ll move. Auralic were just as strongly opposed to MQA and they’re now at the forefront of the Connect rollout.

Hi @PeakMan
Agree, if non adoption starts to impact sales then that may just incentivise them to move.

By the way I wasn’t referring to their rejection of MQA but more their “This is how we do things at Linn and these are the services we support” approach. For example their use of the “airable” radio service. Happy to accept that I’m wrong on this.

Linn’s adoption of Airable radio is an interesting issue. They’re not alone, though, several other manufacturers use the service. Particularly notable is dCS I believe — apologies if I’m wrong.

But Linn also continues to offer TuneIn and their implementation of it does allow UK users to access BBC streams in the highest available quality. At least on my Selekt, it does.

I very much like the newly available Qobuz Connect - Qobuz installed on my Windows 11 PC, MacBook Pro, iPad, iPhone, Mac Mini. My Mac Mini is async USB B connected to my Linn NG KDSM and all of my Qobuz instances on other devices shows exactly the same music playing on the MacMac Mini at the same time, 100% reliable, SQ is really nice!

I truly like the infos available on Qobuz, it seems like a complete musical environment to me. Well done!

Well done and enjoy it.

I’ve got two of them and as you’ve said, it is a big improvement on the Katalyst DAC, which is itself no slouch.

Thanks for all your replies.

I’ve been a Lin fan for a long time, and really like Linn products, except this time I am quite disappointed by Linn because Linn disappointingly, regretably miss Qobuz Connect big time.

I personally think the Linn streamers sound much better than the Naim streamers.

They also look better too. Plus we haven’t had FirmwareGate thrown in the mix either.

A win / win situation.

I’m a Linn owner since 40 years. But I completely disagree. I find the streamers from Naim so much better and even more beautiful :+1: I agree about the FirmwareGate.

Can’t go wrong with either, really. All down to personal choice.

Is the Linn Organik Dac as good as the Chord Dac’s.
