Living half in another country during retirement

I love French fine dining . There’s one French fine dining in MBS (Maison boulud ) own by a one Michelin star French chef ) which I patronise quite frequently if I crave for French food.
Love the Rossini steak they serve .yummy

I do agree - going to a good French restaurant which can be Michelin Guide recommended or higher into stars is often superb cuisine expertly balanced and crafted - and usually a superb and hospitable and engaging experience over an evening with friends or family (which the Michelin stars don’t focus on apparently ) - and doesn’t have to be that expensive - certainly the recommend restaurants.

It’s something the French I genuinely believe excel at.

For us when we visit and stay in France its often a highlight seeking out great restaurants - and very rarely do we get a miss.

With considerable knowledge and understanding of food hygiene and food safety I was quite horrified when I first had a holiday in Hong Kong, and went to a food market where alongside all sorts of other food there were live chickens fir purchase either live or killed for you on the spot. Also an apparently freshly slaughtered pig on a wheelbarrow pushing past people through to one stall, to be butchered there and join other fresh meat openly on display, all in a temperature of at least 28C. Then I learnt that it was the norm for people to go out to the market, buy meat that had been slaughtered from a few to a few tens of minutes before, take it home and cook it. No meat stored at home, simply back the next day. Yes, quite unhygienic, but with only an hour or two between slaughtering and cooking there was not an awful lot of time for bacteria to grow anx produce sufficient toxins to be dangerous, and meat and veg never eaten raw or rare. Whilst disturbing to see, it was clear that general food preparation and eating habits were such that it didn’t present the major food poisoning risk that it first suggested. But of course if you live somewhere like that you have to take your own responsibility for food safety, rather more so than in UK or at least most of EU.

Lot of meringue in that dessert ? For one person?
