Heads up @frenchrooster - Str4tasfear. I did a search and no mention of it. Apologies if you’ve posted about it already. Lined it up for a listen, not heard it yet.

Happy New Year all!

Following @krautnaimie lead above I’m couchlocked with a dodgy back ruminating on my best UK Jazz records of 22.
To be honest not a great deal has stood out for me, there have been a few releases that held promise but most left me disappointed, or maybe I havent been paying attention, for example I havent heard krautnaimie’s Sean Kahn selection.
Anyway 3 titles from 22 that have remained on regular play;

Anything from Shabaka Hutchings is consistently worthwhile and this his “Solo debut” is an interesting departure from his other band projects. A chilled, reflective, meditative record with just Shabaka accompanying himself on a variety of instruments including traditional African ones like the Kora and a Japanese Flute.
One review described this as music to listen to whilst horizontal in a darkened room which is about right but has deeper meaning than mere sleep inducing muzak.
Digital only

Shabaka Hutchings - Afrikan Culture

Another artist making a similarly interesting departure from the status quo. Binker Golding also in a reflective mood with this album inspired by events in his life has quite a broad pallette including touches of Country, Blues, Rock, Americana but whilst personally reflective its a lively uplifting listen.

Binker Golding - Dream Like A Dogwood Wild Boy (Gearbox)

My pick of the year though, at least the record I’ve played most, is Binker Golding, Moses Boyd and Max Luthert fusing spontaneous cosmic free Jazz mutated through Max Lutherts electronic manipulation and loops.

Binker And Moses - Feeding The Machine (Gearbox)

Point of order @krautnaimie, I think the Sean Kahn is a 2021 release?
Yes I know I’m a pedant

Referring to discogs, it was released in February 2022, maybe the stream was from 21?

Dread is right, it’s from November 19 2021.( Bandcamp site). But it’s quite 2022, and maybe it was available only later, I don’t remember.

I love the work of Yussef Dayes, Kamaal Williams and Mansur Brown, all three UK artists from the Jazz Refreshed scene. Albums from Yussef Kamaal, Tom Mish or Yussef Dayes are among my favourites in this uk scene.
This year I discovered a french album from the group Fusion Affair. It’s really shocking at how similar is the spirit and playing of these musicians to the guitarist Mansur Brown or the drummer Yussef Dayes.
Their album is my favourite of the year, specially the track Dasha.

I happily stand corrected, yes digital November 21, CD/LP Feb 22 as you say.
One that got away, first listening now, initially I thought Oh not another Coltrane tribute/influence album but I’m up to Equinox and agree its very good

On Bandcamp it’s written « paru le 19 novembre 2021 ». Anyway it doesn’t change anything….but strange you see 22 and me 19.

Having a listen now…

…not bad, add a bit of wow n flutter and it sounds like 70’s porno music without the moans n groans

Not sure if porno music is a compliment. I found the album unequal, but the track « Dasha « is something. For me of course.

Two of my big favourites both of which are yet to be released on vinyl but where available to stream/download in 2022 so hopefully count

Charlie Stacey - The Light Beyond Time which we’ve been streaming a lot on Tidal and is an excellent debut I can’t wait for the vinyl.

And also featuring Charlie Stacey
