Looking for a turntable

Good morning from Dortmund,

i’m thinking about a companion for my Uniti Star.
So far, I had been considering the Rega P3 RS and the Pro-Ject Debut Reference 10 and a matching preamp.
Any further suggestions (around 1.500€)?

Thanks and best regards,

Axel

I had a ProJect Xpression III years ago and switched to a Rega P3. I love the P3. Get the RS though. I missed it by about a month when I bought mine and wish I’d waited

I had a P3 and switched to one of the newer Technics decks. Can’t complain.

What a pitty. :grimacing:

Hi, with a Uniti Star you will need a PhonoStage, at that budget have you thought of a Technics 1500? It has a built in phono stage , you will probably need a cartridge as well.

There is also a new ClearAudio turntable , the Compass which does not come with a built in phono stage but does come with a built in cartridge.

ClearAudio don’t get a lot of love on this forum, simply because brands like Rega, Linn and Michell are so strong . I have a ClearAudio and it is very well built .

I’m willing to bet the dealers you are comfortable buying from within driving distance have a very manageable selection of maybe 2-4 decks in that price range. In that respect your shortlist is made for you.

Unless you want to buy on a punt.

Of course i’m aware of the issue regarding a preamp.
The CA looks very nice - thanks.

No, of course I wanted to see and hear the candidates for myself, not just order something at random. :man_raising_hand:t3:

As @Ian2001 suggested, I would give Technics a serious look. The 1500C or new SL1500CS should be well within budget and comes with both a cartridge and built in phono stage. And it will outlast you and your children to boot

I’m sure it will give anything within your budget a run for its money, but as others have said, go listen. We can’t know what sound you’ll prefer.

There is an upgraded 1500 being released and for sale this spring. I believe it has the new delta drive and an internal phono stage.

$500 cdn increase over the older version

Cool new grey colour

I believe Clearaudio makes the tonearm on the latest Linn Majiks.

I’m currently considering a preowned Clearaudio Concept Wood with the Satisfy tonearm to plug into my Nait 50.

The Clearaudio Concept preowned would be within the OP’s budget and an excellent TT.

Yes, I have it on my ClearAudio Emotion.

A very stylish turntable

Picture now added.

Thing is that if I were to add all new Linn parts, plus cannibalise the arm , it would cost the same as a new Majik

I still have my Revolver Black Ash from 1987 with a Linn Basic LVX tonearm with a Linn Adikt Cartridge/Styli & love every moment I play it because it gives me what i want.

That looks very nice, the 1500 and 1300 , look :eyes: to me the most stylish of the Technics range.

If only they had kept the cue light. The one genuinely useful bit and they tossed it out too.

Hello, as you are in Germany, maybe you want to have a look for a used Thorens e.g. TD 2001, 1 year ago I got one for 550€ in Kleinanzeigen (used things platform) in very good chape, a new belt and a new cartridge (I like the Audio Technica ones, OC9 or PTG 33 and you still would have some money for the Phonostage. I am running the Thorens with an old Prefix from Naim… Sound of the Thorens improves a lot if you put a cork mat or a glass record instead of the normal plate cover.
