That will only tell you how fast your WiFi network is not your internet speed. You need to run a speed test from an Ethernet connected laptop/PC etc.
Are you sure about that? Why would it measure something different when wired or wireless.
If you run a speed test on your phone it’s measuring what the phone is getting over WiFi, rather than what the router itself is getting from the external connection. Our broadband download speed is 940, which is what the speed checker in the router shows, whereas my phone shows 79, when using a speed checker online.
Because the wireless bandwidth changes dynamically depending on many factors, to know the real bandwidth it has to be tested from a wired computer or from the router itself.

If your internet bandwidth is much greater than your wi-fi bandwidth then that’s true. If it’s the other way round then maybe not so true?
My internet is 1 gig however I have not the latest WiFi access points which maxes out at 220megs so if I run the test from my phone I will not be getting a true reflection of my wan speeds
The wi-fi bandwidth varies all the time based on operating conditions outside of the user’s control, so not so true regardless of the Internet bandwidth.
Perhaps circumstances differ. When I run a speed test from my phone (on Wi-Fi) or my PC (Ethernet cable connected) I get very similar results. My broadband is 150 Mbps and my Wi-Fi is 802.11ax.

That’s because your broadband is not massively fast so closer to wifi speed. However for those unsure of their actual speed running from Ethernet is the most accurate. There is no grey area here

Indeed. My WiFi is faster than my broadband hence my speed test results being similar over ethernet and WiFi.
My point was really about clarity and eliciting an explanation as to why it depends on your WiFi network and internet connection speeds.
