I think that I have solved the problem.
I take the cisco 2960 switch out of the system.
The 272 is now connected directly in 1 of the 4 connectors on my modem.
For now it is working without any trouble.
I did a ping test from my workstation.
Between the workstation stands modem-apple extreme - workstation
The above speeds are in this configuration.
The Cisco switch shouldn’t cause this issue unless it’s not been set up properly. If it’s pre-used then it probably needs a factory reset, which may not have been done before and it may still have rules set up that aren’t helping you. New from the box, it should just work as a switch in unmanaged mode.
I can’t pretend to be a network expert, but I believe Tidal use multiple servers all over the world. Looking at your ping test, I imagine that if the stream came from a server in Hong Kong that might be slow enough to allow the 272 buffer to empty. @Stevesky might be able to tell us whether this might actually be slow enough to cause dropouts?
Regarding your Cisco switch, I have two of these between my router and streamer with no issues. When I ran a 1st gen. streamer with Tidal it was reliable and I very rarely had any dropouts.
I read somewhere that tidal runs on Google cloud servers.
Those are in Frankfurt and the Netherlands. I don’t know how Tidal transfer connections, does it read a ip and then connect it to the closest server?
I experience 2 dropouts this evening. So the Cisco is not the problem.
Also with streaming F1TV I have multiple times that the stream went down in quality today.
I’am gonna install an ping tester tomorrow to let this run for a day or two.
Maybe I can find something. I already read on some forum that the fiber internet I have is fast but not everywhere stable. But I have this internet now for 3 months, never had this experience. I will also check by the provider if they change stuf in the modem.
Well, we are a week further. Have done al kind of measuring.
Nothing to see , nothing helps.
Wensdaymorning no internet for 1minute, after that everything works great.
Thursday morning exactly the same but for 10seconds no internet.
Now everything works flawless. No dropouts anymore. Als formule 1 was the whole stream at highest quality.
I read on the provider forum that other people also had no internet in the morning do to a firmware update on the modem.
Provider is very quiet and explains nothing.
But for me the problem is solved and i don’t touch anything anymore.
If it works then you have too keep the hands of.
Happy men again with the 272.
Definitely interested in a successor to the 272 with NDX2 streaming capability. Ideally a device that is also properly integrated with the app, which is where my biggest question marks around SN3 are. Would rather use a NAP250 as end-stage.
I have tried lots of naim equipment after selling my Naim n-272 I tried the Ndx with 202 and my 250 dr tried the latest Ndx with 202 nd5 they were all very harsh sounding so decided to buy n-272 again and in my opinion for streaming tidal hifi its unbeatable with the 250dr it is truly magical I would not think about changing.
202/250 is a a notorious mismatch in the Naim range. To me, it just didn’t work at all, and that appears to be a widely held view. So I suspect your issue was down to equipment matching within your system rather than being a simple case of Product A is better than Product B.
Hi all thank you for all your great comments and support for this thread…please keep them coming … let’s keep our fingers crossed … hopefully Naim will update this fantastic piece of kit…
Hi @anon77199223 it was actually sent to the head quarters but other than that it is in most ways better than the 82. I still think there is something special about the 82 and specifically when it comes to making a guitarr sound like a guitarr or any other instrument for that matter. It’s not that the 282 is lacking much but it’s just something. It’s really hard to pinpoint and kind of weird considering that the 282 sounds so sweet. To sum up. I’m waiting to get home from work every day so I can listen to my music. It’s that good this setup. Never ever have I had that experience before.
Love the 272 ?
for god’s sake, one of the worst attempt ever taken at Naim’s (172 being absolute the worst)
Worth very little if you try to sell ,I’ve been massively critical at its introduction I was right.
Buy and/or service any classic preamp if you want the best.
