I agree I reckon the whole preamp line up is going to get updated before to long.
Again according to my dealer Naims products that are selling is the extremities (uniti range and even statement) but classic range is pretty stagnant in comparison. This Is interesting but in all honesty would not surprise me.
That’s cause everyone wants things simplified these days. Most of my family and friends think I’m strange for investing so much in what they think is unnecessary. Most change their minds when they bother to take time to “listen”
That doesn’t equate for statement however.
True, but the Statement is out of most people’s range.
I’d certainly expect to see this. If you move up from a SN or 272 and use headphones, you have to replace one box with four - it’s just nuts and puts me right off.
And then there is the whole challenge of diminishing returns as you go up the range.
Yes, plus all the extra boxes. 2 for headphones and 2 for phono (if you use Naims stuff of course). Think it puts a lot of potential customers off.
I’m enjoying my 272 now and to be honest the only thing I’d want changed (and it’s not a deal breaker for me) is the headphone amp.
I find, for occasional use, the 272’s built in headphone amp more than satisfactory. Am I missing something?
I’ve found adding the XPS DR and a S/L interconnect to my NDX2 / SN2 improved the headphone output significantly.
And adding a headline isn’t a very good option, it can’t use system automation (WTF) so you loose all the usability and functionality of your system. When you think about it, the whole pre-amp range isn’t really cut out for modern user needs.
No, may just be me but I don’t get the same kick out of the headphone side. I’ve invested in a good pair of earphones as well.
I’ve added a XPS, think I might consider a 555 later next year.
Your set up has advanced this year, are you enjoying it.
As it powers both the streamer and pre-amp, that should help the headphones I’d expect. But it’s an eye-watering $17.5K !!! in NZ…
Yes, I’m really pleased with where it’s at. Spent way more than planned of course. And Rae says its an “elite hi-fi system” and no more upgrades are required with future funds diverted to overseas holidays and retirement savings - glad I got in early.
Sounds like Rea has been talking to Mrs Pete🤔
Yes the extra 6ks (after trade in) is going to hurt as I’ve probably spend nearly 20ks in the last 2 years and I haven’t picked up (or paid for) my SL speaker cables.
Ah, I missed that. I’ve got those in the plans somewhere to…
Bump
I would vote for 282…many of my friends whom have 500 series remark at lack of detail and less information presented through speakers which reveal so much more when hooked into their 500 setup. Even with 555 PS it could reveal so much more that is in signal. It would also prompt people to buy more PS’s. You have my vote
I bought a decent secondhand 272 + 555DR recently. The only thing I miss is Airplay2 - right now I have an Airport Express with a Remedy Reclocker and it sounds o.k. it is just messy with the extra boxes.
I no longer have Tidal and I will let Qobuz Sublime run out in a few days. There are too many gaps in their libraries. I had given up on Roon before I bought the 272 so it was no problem either. I ran Minim again for a while but decided I could get on without the extra metadata features so now I am back where I started with Twonky.
I find twonky very good sound wise. Thanks all for supporting this thread…come on Naim take notice!!!
