Love the 272 please update - 1 click like post

As I have already said, I believe a 272.2 makes sense if only to exploit the benefits of the new platform and Qobuz integration, the development of which Naim has already paid for.

I would bet however there is bigger strategic stuff going on in the background. But until (or if) that sees the light of day, normal evolution must carry on.

On the evidence of all the awards Naim keep winning it appears they are doing all the right things at the moment!

I bet the folks at Salisbury are having a hoot reading all of this.

People now have more time and more money, including younger people. There is a move towards a ‘slower’ way of life. Vinyl sales have seen a resurgence. Spending £3k on a month in Thailand, with all the associated viruses and carbon, will now become as timely as £20k on a Audi Q7. There has been a flood of people moving out of cities and into the country, with all the extra space that comes with it. In addition, working from home has increased exponentially. You could have your system on all day now, if you wanted.

I think this narrative of ‘less is more’ is played out heavily in the Forum but doesn’t really reflect the reality. It also seems to be spread by those of a slightly older generation. Maybe the retirees who have moved into a wooden beamed cottage in Somerset. You only need to look at eBay flurries for used Black Boxes to see the demand. I buy and sell a fair amount; the average age seems to be getting younger. I know plenty of people in my age group (30-40!) with enough space, time and money to enjoy stacking up their system, whatever the manufacturer.

I was thinking something very similar. Who are these young people who won’t entertain multiple boxes? How do we know they won’t? Has anyone actually asked them?

Could it be that launch of 372 is delayed due to the fun for them reading this thread ?

Another 2-3 years of pandemic, there will be even more free time, but…could less funds.

I guess Naim have age profile data from those who bother to register their Naim purchases.

It would be interesting to see the age profile of MuSo, Uniti and Classic box owners, although there is of course a considerable overlap.

I love my MuSo Qb, as I do my black boxes. I just know my Son and Daughter would never go for a rack of HiFi boxes, their friends neither.

But anecdotal evidence is a dangerous thing.

If you know where you can get a Q7 for £20k please let me know - they start at £55k in the UK…

I was waiting for that. As the owner of a 300k mile A4 2.0 TDI (nicknamed the space shuttle) I am a preposterous hypocrite re: carbon footprint, but perhaps you take my point

There is now a lot of deviation in this thread. Time to declare it dead, not dormant, but dead.

That is surely the OP’s call.

Although this thread meanders, it does seem to come back to the 272 eventually.

I don’t think so. It’s just as relevant now as it was when posted. Thread crapping should not be used as a device to get threads killed off.

A dose of healthy, related diversion can also act as CPR to a thread that is getting tired, or is becoming repetitive, IMHO.

There is of course a fine line between healthy diversion and total nonsense.

It’s just that where the line is drawn depends on who’s drawing it :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Since when has that stopped us before…

Fair point, I suggest that we stick to the topic.

I think there is a lot of reality check here, especially when you look at the development of the new styling of the Uniti’s. I’d see a couple of options in the mix, a new 272 paired with Focal active speakers and a Super Nova - larger or possibly with a single seperate power supply.

What utter rot. Yes I have asked them - my 26 year old daughter loves her Muso that I gave her but absolutely would not want anything more. None of her (wide circle) of friends has anything even near a Muso. They use their phones for most of their music. Good luck commanding the waves to go back

This does not necessarily mean that the small subset of people who own expensive hifi, or the sum of money that is being spent, has become smaller. What you wrote would have applied to nearly everyone I knew 40 years ago just as well.
