Love the 272 please update - 1 click like post

A 272-2 as you describe makes sense for Naim as a business.

It’s quite surprising that they didn’t launch this as they phased out sales of 272s - but then we live in unusual times.

That type of 272-2 would probably sell well to new and some existing 272 owners.

I have to admit it does not excite me.

The 372 may never materialise, but if it does I think it could be popular globally for users who want an excellent hifi on one rack.

It would sell a lot of XPSs and 555DRs, and power amps and cables and Fraims.

And it would bring a bit of “sizzle” to the Naim portfolio too - especially if it was the start of a new approach to DACs.

Absolutely not. No chance whatsoever. Uniti is Uniti. Classic is classic. Who is going to buy a 272 in Uniti clothing, a 555 and 300? Three matching boxes and a weird looking fourth one? Nobody in their right mind.

So no, I think it will keep the classic look.

Not to forget that the Nova itself is just the small bit higher than classic that can make for the odd but infuriating rack level height issue (maybe not in Fraim, but elsewhere)

Oohhh…this thread just got interesting again, even though the team at Naim are probably killing themselves laughing!

I wonder if @charlie.henderson is reading this? If so, any comment?

Charlie will probably tell you they are waiting for forum consensus before moving into the design stage…best not get it wrong😉

If he reads this thread now you’ve got more chance of getting a Naim straight jacket :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

…and the counter argument would be who In their right mind would want a rack full of all the same boring classic style black boxes…

…takes cover…

Well maybe Nigel but nothing lasts forever. Given the campaigning there is on here (not by me) for a revamp of the pre-amps who knows.

Indeed the Statement and Uniti’s and Muso’s have the modern design. We could well see that design adopted for a new left-field product or a refresh of the amps. Much tea will then be consumed…

Which is fine, but one of the nicest things about the Unitis is their volume control. They really are designed as lifestyle products to sit elegantly on a sideboard rather than to be put in a rack where you can’t get at the volume control. In your situation a new platform 272 would be so much better both in sound and ergonomics. You make a good case for it with that picture.

The trouble is that it had become neither interesting, nor amusing. Since the post count race and the increasing way the topic has been diverted the thread appears to have reached a natural conclusion.
Naim will have read and noted the discussion; everything to be said has been said. If the remaining lifespan of this topic is to consist of more diverted tedium disguised as increasing post counts you’re welcome to it.

Possibly, but of course that option is not available right now or in the immediate future  Should a 572 or SuperNova appear within the next 12 months then a trade up would definitely be of interest…however I would want the Nova cosmetics over the 272 which looks too dated for me and did in fact put me off going for a discounted 272 to pair up with my XPS2 that I sold earlier this year in favour of the Nova.

You buy hifi first and foremost on the grounds of how fashionable the boxes look?

Some do, even if not first & foremost. It’s a factor in the decision making, esp if it’s going to cause an ugly clash. Some of the racks of mix n no match in the System Pics thread are an abomination, and a step too far in chasing down that last nth degree of supposed perfection.

No, on availability at time of purchase. Also, i’m not convinced that a first generation streaming platform 272 paired with a 20 year old XPS2 (in my case) would outperform a second generation Nova. To me the Nova is a temporary solution, like others I await the next iteration of streaming platform, hopeful of an improvement in box count and when that arrives I will no doubt take the plunge. I just hope it has Statement stable looks

My thoughts too, cosmetics are important, as a divorce could well see the destruction of any Naim future ambitions

If my hifi is all that’s holding my marriage together I’m in serious trouble!

I like monolithic black boxes, in part because the look of them cannot ‘date’ - after all it’s just a rectangle that is black.

Unless you hark back to the era when the universe was primarily radiation.

…hopefully that was a joke

Ok, maybe at 1500 posts we can say that this topic has been fully unpacked.
