You must have a very niche taste in music.

Unless i want to listen to dated Die Strrates the umpteenth time?

Which streaming service(s) are you referring to?

I do. Naim bring me to my tastes.

Tidal or Spotify.

But those have wonderful catalogues for most mainstream genres, with the possible exception of Classical.

So not underground then?

You don’t seem an ‘underground’ type of guy to me.

What’s underground? They won’t have the latest tracks of the new hot techno or post-punk collective from the squat around the corner, but they have a mighty catalogue in lots of non-mainstream genres.

It’s not the same. If you have the original format, well that’s different. :slightly_smiling_face:

Certainly, and I buy vinyl still and there is lots on the shelves. But you didn’t say format, you implied we could only listen to Dire Straits on Tidal. Personally, I am happy that the days are over of buying all, I don’t know, Beach Boys albums because I think it’s important for cultural education and then listening to them twice. Nowadays there is lots to discover on streaming and when something grows dear to me I buy the vinyl or the files.

I’m sat here listening to a £9,500 Naim source and it’s still missing. No matter what i play through it. It’s nice but it’s no where near where it should be :slightly_smiling_face:

They can’t resist because they love making great hifi systems!

Yup. I can’t disagree there.

Sorry to hear that Stephen. Maybe start a new thread if you want some input.

I totally agree! I occasionally use Spotify to check out musical recommendations. I used Tidal briefly via the free offer with my Atom, then Qobuz via Bubble for a week or two - just isn’t the same as playing my own music, that I actually own and have physically backed up. Provided I have my home network I have permanent access to 4,500 albums - enough music to last me comfortably, without repeats, for the next 5 or 6 years! I still add to my collection at an average rate of about 10 albums per month. I don’t need, or want, any more. I can appreciate why others might prefer to ditch ownership for streaming, particularly if they feel hi-res is an improvement over CD quality. I personally don’t, horses for courses.
Good job we’re all different, eh?

I’m not complaining here NigelB, i like my system, but i’m also just saying as it is. :joy:

But Timmo, while we agree that the 272/555DR is a great music player, it’s not optimised for hires.

Which is probably why you don’t rate hires.

Gosh…

But if you don’t like web streaming why didn’t you just get an NDS?

Or an LP12?
