Love the 272 please update - 1 click like post

I also want to say thanks for sharing your long post. I read about your accident and hearing troubles quite a while ago and I wish you the very best. Though I joined the forum only in June, it feels like having known you a long time as your great posts and Naim knowledge have been a wonderful guide on my journey during the past six months, from a very modest system to the wonders of the new one. Thank you so much.

Didn’t read through 1700+ posts but in case no-one has suggested it, how about a powered Aux input for us dinosaurs with a turntable???

If you have the inclination at some point to compare the bare NDX2 to NDX2/555DR on SQ, I’d be interested in your findings.

@anon4489532 glad you are enjoying the new system and looks great! :+1:t2:
Interested to know sonically what you feel you may have lost/gained having quite a radical change.
As you say your system is now bang up to date with what should be Naims latest knowledge and innovation.

I would be interested in this also but unless Nigel would be prepared to put many hours of music through the internal NDX2 toroidal transformer, which I see no reason why an earth he would want to owning a 555DR then it would be an unfair comparison really. :joy:

The link plug is in the box in the loft, which is where it’s staying. If people are really intrigued as to the difference a 555 makes I’m sure their dealer would be happy to arrange a demonstration.

If you add either power supply to a NDX2, you won’t be unplugging it :sunglasses:

HH sorry to jump in but I would be really interested in your view regarding adding Atrabites.
Thanks Graham

I heard this comparison in Naim’s factory demo room soon after the NDX2 was released and it was a very compelling demonstration of why you would seriously want to add a power supply to a Naim unit that had its own power supply built in.

I would say the NDX2 changed from being strident and trying hard, to just settling into the music. I relaxed into the chair. It’s a lot of extra money but I thought it was well demonstrated as worth it (and I am a real sceptic for all this cables and tweaking nonsense).

Yep, i was there too, and it was a striking difference. It really sings with a power supply.

It doesn’t exactly surprise me as the exact same thing happened when I added a 555DR to my 272.

The reason I was interested is because not that many users seem to add the 555DR to the NDX2.

And when I went to a dealership near North London about a year ago I listened among other things to NDX2/555DR - but because the room was so echoey and the gear was not set up right it really didn’t sound that good.

In a carefully set up home system tuned to the room it must add a lot.

When I was going through various options with @Cymbiosis quite a little while ago Phil put a 555DR on the NDX2, it was transformational. Ended up with my trading my XPS for a 555DR to go on my CDS3!

Hi, HH, Regarding servere hearing loss initial reaction is to withdraw from any sort of musical listening as you do not wish further disapointment. Wait till you settle this can be months when you finally come back not expecting much - if anything! so expectations are low you will get something! The Brain has some abilities so even though the sound does not pass through the ear (with Music not Speech) what sound it does hear from its memory it seems to fill in some of the missing information so your listening may be just a little better than you expect dont rush it be calm and see how it works out.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write that, it’s very kind of you and very helpful.

The very reason why I have decided to stick with 300DR+Nova for the time being. Once the 272.2 is releassed I’ll go for that plus a 555PS and I’ll be done. The Nova can go in the bedroom instead.

My strategy almost the same but I want the SuperNova so I can keep the spacing I have in my single stack Fraim as I am sure it adds SQ benefits and the 250DR drives the obelisks just fine… :+1:

…can I have it for a Christmas please Santa?

How many heads does your hydra have?

Will it provide power to your 555DR too?

Has it arrived?
