Given the 272 is a current product I would expect Naim to at least update the software (Qobuz, Airplay2 and Roon) and fix the issues streaming from the net.
Everything else about the 272 I find “good enough”.

I think, as has been discussed many times here, all of those (except maybe or maybe not Qobuz) are all hardware limitations, so a non-trivial and probably expensive back to Salisbury modification rather than a software download.

Naim have said that Qobuz will not come to any of the legacy streamers. It’s not a huge issue as Bubble works well and Roon can be accommodated with software. I don’t really care as I use neither.
I’m very happy with my 272 and not sure what upgrade your chasing. I don’t use any streaming services so up dating that isn’t a priority for me. I feel that there’s probably more chance of it being replaced rather than an a software update for the existing unit.
As for likes, think your topic has more than any other topic I’ve noticed.
You say that, but although it’s listed on Naim website it’s not been possible to buy one new for some while actually.
I assume as well that the hardware is the blocking factor here. If Naim would bring the Uniti streaming platform (which I believe is the same as the NDX 2 ) to the 272 successor, that could be an excellent piece of kit. Would be something like the NDX 2 plus volume control in classic design.
Really?
I doubt that.
If your dealer talks to Naim about something on their website then they will make one. It normally takes a month or less. They even occasionally make things that aren’t notionally available if the dealer asks the right way and they have the special parts to hand (I have one such classic unit made by Naim about 9 months after they discontinued it).

According to my Naim dealer yes,he has tried to get a couple including one for his demo room.
Jason was just with him for a full setup also and he did a Naim demo a few months ago.
Only going by what the owner of my Naim dealer told me last week, he can’t get them.
I see absolutely no reason why he would lie.
A dealer will have to support this product under warranty for the next 5 years, by which time it will be running streaming tech developed 17 years in the past. I would never accuse anyone I didn’t know of lying, but if I were in his position, I would not be encouraging people to buy it.
I find that a very unrealistic scenario given that naim are able to service and maintain all products for donkies years! I’d be more concerned about selling Novas than the 272’s!
Well whatever. I’m sure your dealer knows what he is doing. The 272 is an excellent unit anyway, despite that the hardware predates many of today’s streaming fads.

Sure, I didn’t say or suggest otherwise.
Servicing the hardware is not the issue. I’m sure Naim will continue to do that, but they will not add more functionality. The new streamers will get that. The old ones may not easily sustain their existing functionality, especially Tidal support, and if you buy one now to use it with Tidal because the sales blurb says it will work, we have no idea if it is even technically possible for it to support whatever Tidal throws at it in 2025.
Agreed but it’s still a DAC and a new streamer Front end could be added to it to bring it up to spec. It will never be completely redundant. Will also always work via UPNP
I agree, but as dependence on workarounds increases, it becomes a much more risky proposition for a dealer to sell them to people who just expect it to do what it says on the tin.
That is technology, worse for companies selling computers that are out of date the minute you buy them.
This is also one of the reasons I never went for a 272 and originally went for a NDX. I don’t for one minute dispute that the 272 is a fantastic product and probably bettered the NDX/Supernait2 in its day but in the scheme of things the computer aspect changes at a far quicker rate than that of pre amps and power amps.
I didn’t want to be changing in essence two components due to just one dying with Technology and age.
My dealer has a 272 in stock. I wouldn’t be getting one as it’s old technology. That’s why I went NDX2 / SN2.
It will be interesting to see where it goes, as it’s cheaper than the NDX2 to start with, and how would a revised 272 with the new streamer technology compare sound wise? But it’s a gap in the range, especially if you wanted to have single box running active speakers.
I wouldn’t be surprised if all of Naims pre amps were updated in the near future, some may even be dropped as they rationalise their range. Most of these pre amps haven’t been changed for years, who knows you might get some extra love for vinyl and a headphone amp. As a matter of economics if nothing else. 3 pre amps to match the streamers and maybe a revised 272.
