Mac Update breaks Innuos

The latest MacOS update v15, now v15.1.1, has broken the ability to copy files from my MacBooks to the Innuos Auto Import folder - the Mac’s can see the folder but any attempt to copy data there results in the infamous Error 51 - Unknown Error.

Innuos Zenith/Mac owners update at your peril

Boo, hiss :face_with_symbols_over_mouth::face_with_symbols_over_mouth::face_with_symbols_over_mouth::face_with_symbols_over_mouth:.

Maybe you should boo and hiss at Innuos. They seem like pretty helpful guys, maybe they could even fix it.

Innuos has its own community forum now, you could post the questions/problems there (if you haven’t already done so).

Error 51 used to be a permissions issue with the destination folder
Try starting your MacBook in Safe Mode and see if that helps
(Look at Apple support for starting in Safe mode - depends on your MB model)

Thanks @ChrisSU, @malfordlad and @NigelA10 , done all of those sensible things.

By a process of elimination I’ve come to believe it’s a permissions issue too, however, if I manually create the album folder in Auto Import, I can then copy the tracks into it 1 or 2 at a time……

Any more and it’s back to Error 51 again.

Innuos support believe it’s a Mac issue as it only manifested after the v15.x.x update.

Beats me, hence boo & hiss, not so much at Naim but at IT in general.

Hopefully Innuos will contact Apple, as presumably they want this feature to work. Apple have possibly introduced a security feature/fix, which may result in them disabling something that was considered a vulnerability. Happened many times in MS Windows also where an update would break an app, and it’s up to the app developer to rewrite their code to work with the new restrictions (e.g.SMB1 was a biggie).

Bug finally identified as being caused by Intego Internet Protection antivirus and firewall software.

Only occurs after updating to MacOS v15.x.x, did not occur with the previous version, v14.x.x.

“If you use Appel’s products, you have yourself to blame”

Old saying :sunglasses:

:joy::joy::joy::joy::lotus::weary::weary::weary:

Appel - never heard of them - :rofl:

I have used macs since 1989, in that time I have never installed antivirus on them, get on and remove it.

1985 Here - and never installed anything like that either

Despite popular belief and/or hearsay, Mac’s and their users are as vulnerable to malware as Windows machines, Linux, IOS, iPadOS and anything else that offers financial opportunities to bad actors.

But, each to their own.

I’ve heard that said, but don’t know if that has been scientifically proven, but what was known is that typically, hackers would mostly target Windows rather than Linux/Unix based systems. No doubt that may be changing over time.

Of course it also depends a lot in the user and how willing they are to click on anything, and perhaps Linux/Unix users are more cautious.

You are entirely correct :innocent:.

I am a Mac user, so may be biased, but my IT career was in both Windows PC/Servers and Linux/Unix Servers. Never came across any Viruses in Linux/Unix, but my experience is a small sample of the world :blush:

I suppose it depends what you are up to Osiris is probably up to no good so needs to protect himself :slight_smile:

I dont run antivirus on pc either. Never had an issue. Windows defender is fine nothing can install on a Mac with out your say so.

And for any Innuos/Mac/Intego users, the fix is to add the remote mounted network volume, in this case the Auto Import folder, to the Trusted Files in the Intego Virus Barrier software.

This will eliminate Error 51 errors breaking the file copy process whilst maintaining the Intego anti virus/firewall integrity.
