Managing Expectations(?)

Back in the day, I bought a new system with a Nait 3 amplifier and Ruark Epilogue speakers. It sounded super in the dealer’s demonstration room but anaemic in our living room.

The dealer offered to change either the amplifier or the speakers to obtain a better match with our living room and to fill out the missing bass.

He suggested to first swap the Nait 3 for a (used) NAC32.5 and a new NAP140.
If I remember correctly, the Nait3’s power amp section was closely related to that of the NAP90.

The amplifier change brought more perceived power, control, dynamic headroom, filled-out bass and life to the music.

I still have that NAP140…
