I recently purchased a Uniti Atom HE streamer and I am using it with the Focal Naim Android app.
Does anyone know why there is a 500 track limitation either in the app or in the Atom HE itself?
I would have liked to be able to play from my whole music library in a random fashion using the randomizer button. Now I only get the first 500 track alphabetically…..

This is a limitation of the Naim app. It’s always been there, and every now and then somebody posts here to complain about it. I doubt Naim will change it: they’ve had quite a few years to do so if they wanted to. No harm in contacting Naim support about it though: if they see that people don’t like the limitation they might consider changing it if they can.

What UPNP software are you using? Asset has an option that provides a ‘jukebox’ selection of random tracks to the server. It’s still limited to the 500 tracks but that selection comes from your whole library. (I wish MinimServer would provide the same option, but he’s unwilling to do so.)
Not something I would generally do, but I just tried shuffling 10,000 tracks in JRiver. It seemed to work. Specifically it seemed to pull from all the albums included, not just the tracks, albums, or artists coming first alphabetically.
This is consistent with what I’ve read online.
(Not to say it couldn’t crash at some point.)
Roon can handle 5000 or so tracks in a play queue. Not something I would ever use, but ww’ve all got our own preferences.
It always seems useful until you hit the problem of wildly different recording levels on different albums.
I like the random play option as tracks and albums come up that I might otherwise pass over or forget about in a moderately large ripped cd library.
Anyway, when I plug a usb drive (copy) into a WiiM Ultra containing over 20,000 tracks it can “see” all the songs. From there it picks 500 tracks alphabetically but you can choose the starting point on the alphabet if you wish. However, viewing the above (WiiM) with the ‘mconnect’ app all 20,000 tracks are again seen at once but the whole library can be shuffle played and viewed using it’s own program. So the combination of the WiiM/usb and ‘mconnect’ make this possible. Sounds involved but I’ve gotten used to it and I get a fresh shuffle every day if I wish. I would of course prefer a Naim streamer/server for “serious” listening.
I might take a look at the JRiver program as well.
Yes, I agree this is a draw back.
