If it turns the music off then its not doing the upnp right!
Unless you are playing music located on your phone. If the music is located on a UPNP server somewhere then it should be telling that UPNP server to play to the UPNP Renderer (ie nova) if you turn the phone off it should carry on. There are a lot of UPNP controllers on the app store try something else.
